I had always hoped that Frank would collaborate with another musician and launch a new project...actually, in my mind, I was always hoping he'd partner up with David Thomas and get into something more conceptual (well yea. he got together with the Two Pale Boys, but it was hardly a collaboration, more of an assignment given to them, close, but not David Thomas)....in a way, I always thought of the Orange album as a collaboration with Eric Drew.
Even though he had the Catholics, it was hardly a collaboration. He was the boss, they were the compliant workers.
It might be a good time for Frank to collaborate with another musician.... |

Maria Mckee would be great. It's been noted that Frank's voice coupled with a female voice sounds fantastic, and they're not a million miles away musically. Plus Maria McKee has the best female voice I've heard. The results, I'm sure, would be awesome.

It would be cool if he did a virtual duo with Elvis.

I'd like to see FB backed by Medeski Martin & Wood. Frank and fusion jazz, good stuff.

Not a woman. Nothing could be cooler than the Frank 'n' Kim combo.
Bowie ... promising, intriguing.
Bob Mould ... self-indulgent on my part, not likely on Frank's.
Great thread, fbf!
I still believe in the excellent joy of the Catholics |

seeing all the cool collaborations she's done with other people, and considering (or assuming) they're friends (since she was at his birthday party) i say PJ Harvey and Frank recording something could be cool |

Kurt Cobain
No, seriously. I know he's done stuff with TMBG before, and I'd like to hear more of that. Or maybe he could play with the Minus 5.

He collaborates with an assortment of musicians on all his albums. Morris Tepper and Stan Ridegway, for instance. And on Honeycomb, Steve Cropper, Spooner Oldham and a number of famous Nashville musicians. |

I wouldn't mind if he did another song with Mike Watt... (sorry for being repetative repetitive...)
[edit]: I'm sorry for sucking at spelling... It's repetitive, not repetative. |

I would second They Might Be Giants. Also, if he felt like getting into stuff with heavier production again, it would be cool to hear Frank with Trey Spruance from Mr. Bungle and Secret Chiefs Three. Imagine all the brilliant little sections they'd come up with to splice together, Beach Boys style. Frank and Rick Nielsen would be cool, too. It might inspire Nielsen to write more of the hilarious, brilliant songs he used to spit out effortlessly. |

I would like to see FB and Van Morrison. That could be explosive.
I also want a stripped down FB at some point. Johnny Cash American Recordings or Springsteen Nebraska styled. So, a collaboration with his inner demons and an acoustice guitar. |
