My name is Laura and I'm new here. Naturally, I luuuuv music. What are some of your favorite bands/artists/groups? I dig stuff like The Ramones, The Pixies, AC/DC and Paul Collins' Beat, who hold a special place in this girl's heart.
First off, I'm 25 years old and a huge fan of Frank Black, The Pixies, The Ramones, The Breeders and Mogwai. I own all of The Pixies albums, including some un-official releases. *Unofficial* Ha!
Seeing The Pixies this past year was like a dream come true. I never thought I'd live to see that tour, but it happened. When I think about The Ramones, it is a bit deppressing. Sadly, we lost Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny in just a matter of years. What I have read is that Paul Collins' Beat were good friends with The Ramones and toured with them for many years as The Beat and as The Paul Collins' Beat. I had the honor of seeing Paul Collins' Beat play in 2003.
I found it so ironic when it said "All Over The World," because Paul Collins' Beat just finished the "All Over The World" Tour. "All over The World" was a song Paul Collins Beat recorded on the 1984 album "To Beat or Not To Beat" and they recently recorded a new version of the song for the Tsnunami Disaster CD comp.
Paul Collins' Beat were big in the 70s and 80s, long before some of us were even born. Yay! Paul Collins Beat used to be known as The Beat and are still together, performing, writing and recording as Paul Collins' Beat.
The other day I checked back at the official Paul Collins' Beat website http://www.paulcollinsbeat.com and he still looks incredibly young for his age. What a hottie!
The Paul Collins' Beat website even includes some free audio and live music videos of Paul Collins' Beat performing live on The Ramones Rock and Roll High School tour from back around 1979. I suppose in a lot of ways, Paul Collins' Beat is very similar in writing and sound to The Ramones. They should be, because Paul Collins knew The Ramones from back when he lived on the east coast.
For the folks who may not remember or if you'r e like me may not have been alive back then, Paul Collins' first band was called The Nerves with Jack Lee and Peter Case. They were a combination of classic rock, r&b punk and 60s rock, but with a bit more class than your typical punk and rock bands of that time.
The early Paul Collins Beat was The Nerves, who wrote and recorded "Hanging on the telephone," which became a huge hit for Deborah Harry and Blondie shortly thereafter. When The Nerves split, Peter Case formed The Plimsouls and Paul Collins formed The Beat and The Paul Collins' Beat. Paul Collins wrote "Let Me into Your Life" with Eddie Money, who was initially responsible for The Beat's success. This comes to show that good friends come in all shapes, sizes and from all genres.
My mom remembered when Paul Collins' Beat did a series of US tour dates with The Jam and The Police, primarily hitting concert halls on in the south/southwest, the east and west coasts. She drove in a van with three of her girlfriends just to see Paul Collins' Beat five or six times. I am just happy to see that a band as good as Paul Collins' Beat is still around after everything life can throw in your direction. (Especially my mom's!) Is anyone in here a fan of Paul Collins Beat or The Ramones? Also, I admire the fact that The Pixies and AC/DC can still make new albums and tour all over the place. These boys are gonna be around forever!
Hugs, Laura
