there's a spate of them recently, really catchy songs that you can't help but learn all the words to, for example
kaiser chiefs - every day i love you less and less maximo park - graffiti sons and daughters - dance me in magic numbers - forever lost
is it the summer that brings these out? most of these are likely to be one hit wonder bands, and thats sad. I'm trying to remember catchy singles of bands you never hear of again but were great while they lasted, remember any?

I reckon catchy hit of the summer will be 'Bottle Rocket' by the Go! Team. Back me up Michael.
How about anything by Dodgy?
I like the Tears one going about at the mo too, 'Refugees'

Boo Radley's - Wake Up Boo was a fantastically catchy song. Then they kind of disappeared off the chart radar.

This Michael supports your belief, Cheeseman. Although, it has been my catchy single of the past few months.

Excellent back-up Michael. That's the new single over here. I don't know if you'll get the chance to see them live, Mr Mikeabye, but if you do, grab it with both hands. Best gig I've been to in ages.

You don't say. When they played around the New York aread, all I heard were poor reviews. I'm not willing to pass judgement however, before I give 'em a looksee myself.
My choice for summer single is from the new Spoon album, Gimme Fiction. I propose "I turn my Camera On". Dancey Spoon = Awesome. Dunno if it'll be released as single though. One can always hope.

white stripes blue orchid is a bastard of a single, that one is hard to ignore.

As far as I can tell, shiney, that's the only good song they do, the others aren't up to the same standard.
And Sir, I do indeed say.

I think 'everyday I love you less and less' is far more catchy that 'I predict a riot' and it's got a lot of nananananananana in it what more do you want!
and by the tears, you mean suede right? I can't get past his voice still, like nails on a blackboard. It is an annoyingly catchy song. Bernard Butler has a lot to answer for, isn't he responsible for that horrible 'yes' song as well.

The new Spoon album is a gem. If you already like the Spoon sound, this disc takes it to new places. Sweet. |

Yeah, I think I've heard that a dozen times in the last couple days. The chorus is pretty catchy, its got that 80s feel to it.

Really? My god New Yorkers can be up their own arse sometimes. Too cool to have fun. As Simon says, they are amazing live.
I am really dissapointed with that new White Stripes single. It sounds like Scissor Sisters covering The Darkness, which has got to be a bad thing.
I guess floop WAS right!

Speaking very generally, they are indie-alternative-pop-wave, but I don't know whom to compare them too among recent bands. The other day I read something calling them sorta R&B, which surprised me because I usually don't go for R&B, but I guess there is something to that, in the pace and in Britt Daniel's voice. The music is serious in its emotional tone, as opposed to light or humourous. The presentation is somewhat minimalist as opposed to lavish, with a strong basic beat, and sparse guitar rather than characterized by entended leads. Sometimes they remind me of the Stones, not just because the new album has that song I Turn My Camera On, which reminds of Miss You. Intelligent band and music. Of the higher profile, recent newer pop rock bands, they're the one I'm most likely to be listening to, with a nod to the Shins and the New Pornographers.
I was slow to reply to your question because I usually feel at a loss as to how to describe music in words. A friend of mine how used to write up classical material for All Music Guide tried to get me to try to send them some rock stuff but I declined. Just don't have enough adjectives. |
