when i'm driving, i'm not happy unless i feel like i'm in a car chase from some cheesy 80's movie, crashing into garbage cans and shopping carts,

the way i feel is, it's not my fault that the driving laws aren't conducive to my expert driving skills. i should live in Germany.

I guess floop WAS right!

You should live in hell if you're serious :)

As it happens, I was in such an "expert driver"'s car today, roaring through town at over 80 kilometers per hour (speed limit: 50). I have made it a rule, when I'm a passenger, not to critcize the driver. But in this case it was all I could do not to shower him with insults.

To be honest, I must say that I really hate driving myself.

I've taken to accelerating very slowly and then sticking to the speed limit.

I have a tendency to drive fast, but this is particlarly exacerbated by loud, raucous music...("Planet of Sound" is a good example of a song that involuntarily transforms my foot into a cement block. Maybe it's the suppressed urge to stomp it up and down.)

im a really annoying slow driver im afraid, (although my driving does tend to be mood dependent-the worse the mood, the better/faster the driving) it comes from years of being driven around by my dad who felt it was his duty to race every car on the road, even if it meant the engine exploding...

This thread should quickly morph into a "Traffic School Horror Stories"
thread, compliments of those forum members who've been busted
by the California Highway Patrol (you know, the nice folks who brought
you Erik Estrada) and had to go to traffic school early on a Saturday morning,
along with their boss, who decided this would be a fun way to bond and
ended up spending the entire fucking day with an obese chatty woman
who kept "regaling" the class with tales of her former life as a speeder
but then she found jesus and stopped speeding and started teaching
truants such as ourselves. That would be my story. Floop, being
a denizen of the Los Angeles area, could add some flair in the form
of stories about LA traffic school "classes", which, I understand, are taught
by struggling comedians and other types.

I like driving fast, but I've only been driving for about two months. The fastest I've gotten up to has been around 90-ish mph. I've still got my permit, so I'm wary about breaking the speed limit. I don't want to have to wait until I'm 21 to get my license.

speedsters "in the know" know that you can do Traffic School online now. one of the best inventions of the 21st century. i've been doing online traffic school for the past 5 years or so.. it literally takes about a half hour. you submit everything online, in the privacy of your own home..

next time you get a ticket, see if online traffic school is available in your county. it almost makes getting traffic worthwhile..

(but yeah, i could tell you some stories from back in the day. wasting an entire 8 hours of my existence. many times. did i mention i have a bad driving record?)

I remember when I got my license I knew that I could wipe out one ticket by going to traffic school. So, I spent my first few months speeding everywhere I went until I was busted doing about 75 in a 55 on the way back to school from lunch. Sorry, kathryn I don't have good traffic school story. It was just boring.

i too like driving fast, but in new zealand, the roads a rarely straight enough for long enough to actually get up any great speed.
the fastest i've ever been is only 170km/hr, but that was damn stupid now that i think about it.
so it's more a thing of driving fast for the conditions which gets my blood flowing.
once did a 300km drive over very mountanous terrain in 3 hours which would normally take a good 5 hours. but my car had just been broken into and i was absolutely fuming.
almost flew over a few cliffs, but man it was great fun.

and also so many goddam police everywhere that chances of getting caught are pretty damn high.

So, Sir Rock, when do you fly to Germany so you
can teach those Autobahn drivers a thing or two

I've actually been on the Autobahn. When I went to Europe two winters ago. Pretty much scared me away from Europe for the next couple of years.

Yes. I'm the paranoid driver in the city, but the Sierra Nevada mountains have hundreds of miles of serpentine, cliffside two-laners which are great fun, not for flat out high-end speed so much as for finding the line through mile after mile of graceful curves. But you can't forget to keep an eye peeled for idiots, boulders, and deer from hell.

I'm still learning the whole driving thing (shutup Cheese) - love being a passenger in a fast car though (but has to be out on the open road - not racing up to sit on another cars ass in traffic). In fact I think it's one of the contributing factors to the whole problem - I daydream (the whole car chase/running from the law thing - BIG favourite) and find trying to concentrate on the learning how to operate the damn thing interrupts the fantasy.

The first bit of my last holiday just prior to getting bust speeding was a slice of heaven. Still, getting bust on Route 66 just after leaving Vegas on new years day because you're "testing" to see just how fast the car will go is a good one to add to the list.

Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.

I'm honestly not a big fan of driving fast. I will sometimes, if I'm in a hurry or on a road that's conducive to it. I usually keep it around the speed limit, though. I'm a wuss. But you already knew that. <g>

it's hard to speed listening to stalk of wheat, maybe some erratic happy lane changes and all, but speeding, nope, uh uh, not gonna happen.
