So, this Dutch radio station recently had a poll for the best intro for a song ever. Golden Earring's Radar Love hit number 1, Hotel California (Eagles) and I feel fine (Beatles) also got a lot of votes.
What's your favourite intro?
I guess mine is California Girls (Beach Boys) |

Iggy Pop's 'Tiny Girls' (from 'The Idiot') has a very good introduction. |

Intro to Tom Waits Black Rider album is great, the Bill burroughs carny thing. I like the one to Honey Pie too.

Bowie's 'It's No Game Part 1' is a tough intro to top. |

My current favourite is Romatic Rights - Death From Above 1979. Starts off with such distortion and dischordance - sets your teeth on edge and works it's way all the way down the back of your neck - then the drums start, by then the sensation has worked it's way to your hips and you're dancing like a mad person.
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes. |

Not the greatest one, but I certainly love 'Money for nothing'. Only the intro part, the rest of the song is quite predictable.
It's not an intro, but the beginning of 'Cecilia Ann' makes me shiver.

It's got to be something by the Beach Boys; the problem is they've got so many amazing intros. To name a few, perhaps "Wouldn't it be Nice," "The Little Girl I Once Knew," or "California Girls," among others.

Vic Chesnutt's "Free of Hope" (a long, heartbreaking wail).
The Paper Chase's "One Day He Went Out For Milk and Never Came Home". I think the intro kicks ass, so to speak, although I'm not too keen on the rest of the song.

I like that Bjork song which melds from industrial noises into a beat - I think I've only heard it the once, but it left an impression. I don't know the name.
How about 'Running With The Devil' by Van Halen?

my vote might have to go with 'victoria' by the kinks - by the time the lyrics start you are hyped it - it builds and builds and then the song rocks your socks off. its really a wonderful way to begin a song

uh............Debaser? Those first four bass notes are classic.
And "Airbag" by Radiohead....that is a great riff. I know some people hate Radiohead, but that's a great hook. I mean, that's impressive. I wish I could write something as good as that. So original. I love music theory because it adds a sense of objectivity to the quality of music. You know what's original and what some talentless hack can pretend to have written. |

Weezer - The World has turned and left me here
The way the drums kick in followed by the heavily distorted guitars with the acoustic picking dancing over the crunch... it's beautiful.
I'd say Weezer's Tired of Sex has a pretty wicked intro to.
That band used to be so great.
