It appears some people have immense collections. I own about 400 CD's and about another 50-80 vinyl records. I often get rid of the cd's that i dislike (trading for something better) and spent a lot of the early 90's replacing my vinyl with plastic (stupid, stupid me ). I am currently buying about 3-a-month.
I'm not including the burned cd's that I will eventually buy when i win the lottery or get a 6 figure income or stop playing hockey or institute some sort of insurance scam.
How many CDs and/or Albums do you own? |

I actually don't have that many, compared to a lot of people who buy a lot of music. I hav'nt bought an album in a while. I've got a few picture discs and limited editions, and a few cool CD singles. |

Only about 400 cd's, and 300 lp's I guess. But I know them all by heart.
There's a little test I sometimes do when I meet people with way more albums: play a random song of a random album of their collection, and they usually don't even recognize it themselves. Seems silly to me.

Nowadays with mp3 stuff, people get busy stuffing their hardrive with anything... and they hardly listen to the music they have, and rarely draw attention to a whole album. And they forget to have taste of their own... and say like... Oh I love everything... Watch Out! Thoses people have no souls and are not real people... Or maybe it's me.
That is a pity. I personnaly use my computer like a Jukebox, I have around 140 gigas of music but I know and love 70% of it.

Cool, a "who's got the biggest" game... I love these ones. I have 501 CDs and 126 vinyls. Plus 41 burned CDs that I never listen to. I buy about a hundred records each year, most of them second hand, at an average of €7.50 each.

Honestly no idea. I do most of the cd purchasing in the Surfer household but since my reckless spending is often frowned upon I've taken to sneaking them into the house, which means that there's always a selection on my desk at work (ready for the smuggling home), a healthy pile in the kitchen, quite a few hidden in cupboards throughout the house and never mind the 20 odd in my bag at any given time. |

That's my mate that is!
I feel better about the amount of CD's I buy now. My 400 or so seems to be quite a small collection.

I'll show this thread to Mrs Denis, she has about the same reaction as Mr Surfer regarding my CD purchases. I have to show her that some people buy way more records than me.

just a quick point, I could go to any track on all the cd's I have and similarly any track on my pc, and I would know it, 10% from the first not, 90% from the first bar and 10% from the first verse. I have this stuff because I like it, not to take part in a competition.

Actually, I don't see anything wrong in having CDs you've never listened to or you don't know by heart. I have a couple of records (not many) that I've never heard and I'm happy to have them nevertheless. It's a wholly different thing with mp3 files downloaded free from Soulseek.

i used to count my cd's back in the pre mp3 days but i lost count. i own more or less 1000 original cd's and some 300 vinyl records. and i have quite a few gigs of mp3's too. i agree that since music is so easy to get i pay less attention to it.

Denis, I would be very happy if you held Surfer and me and the rest of us compulsive music-buyers as a comparative example of how you are not, repeat, not buying too many albums.

About 125 or so vinyl lp's, 75 or so real CD's (not including CD-R's), and about 300-400 burned bootleg CD's

Looks like 9.66%. 11.59% if you count Mono Puff and John Linnell solo.

"That's 'cause he's only got about ten records. CDs." "And that makes him an awful person, does it?" "In my book, yes. Barry, Dick, and I decided that you can't be a serious person if you have...” "Less than five hundred. Yes, I know. You've told me many, many times before" |
