The Man has been known to say that his most rocking tunes are the old time rock ballads such as "Last Stand.." and "Sir Rockabye". What the hell is he talking about?

I'm Sir Rockabye, and I do rock.

I agree that these two songs, along with the rest of his catalog do rock pretty well. What's your source for this info?

In "I Want Rock n Roll", Frank's definition of rock n roll includes the likes of Chubby Checker, Desmond Dekker (a reggae guy with some pop hits), Freddy Fender (a country Tex-Mex oriented guy), the Rolling Stones, and Elvis. He also refers to soca, which is a form of calypso music. And then he concludes it all with an Iggy Pop reference (or it's an Iggy Pop reference according to what Frank filled out on his fb.net forum self-description)

But what we're dealing with here is the idea that "rock" is not a raging Iggy tune or whatever, it's a ballad.. And I think you're right in quoting I want Rock and Roll... He is refering to the roots of rock, rather than the modern connotation of the word.

The prize is that someone in cyberspace might actually care about your avatar/alterego.

What I'm trying to say is that my 1c/me is not real.. But by writing these letters, I am trying to make this character of mine exist:

1c is becoming more real every second and letter

so if you win.. you too can become more real.

"...The slow version got even a bigger reaction from the audience than the more rockin' version from Doolittle. I guess mellow can sometimes be much more rockin'."-FB on Wave Of Mutalation(UK Surf), Pixies' Complete B-sides sleeve notes.

Didn't FB write a song called "rock music" [indecipherable lyrics blended into a slab of noise]. Great song though...

The version of Shazeb on the I Don't Want To Hurt You single is one of my favorite live recordings I own. It reminds me alot of the (U.K Surf) Wave in parts, I think it's the odd chord change, drums and tempo. pretty obvious, huh?
To hear that fb counts this song aswell as 'Sir Rock' as his most rocking is quite a revelation and has blown apart the pigeon hole i'd class as rock.

hmhmm....

i guess i get what the man means. listening to souled american, they definitely rock. altough they just have acoustic guitars and play really mellow, silent and slow, they make me shake and give me just this "rockin'" feeling. "rocking" is a mixture of songwriting & sound, i think.
and for me it has to do with acoustic guitars. seeing fb&tc live in 2003, the song which blew me away most was 'freedom rock', as he played in on an acoustic guitar. of course, with the band, but this guitar made it. isn't it the same with robert onion ?
acoustic guitars rock ! plug out & rock in !

I joined the cult of Souled American / 'cause they are a damn' fine band

I think it is all subjective really. I mean, where does one draw the line between rock and, dare I say, alternative. Frankus Blackus definitely rocks. We shouldn't try to categorize it, we should just enjoy it, take it in to our cognitive perceptions, let our brains float up to a place where they can be loved in clouds of pleasant thought and spooky, chaotic nightmares. Shake it all off, and realize how lucky we are to have people like Frank Black who are able to break away from rest of the group and do something constructive with their time. What if Frank Black never decided to turn off the television and pick up a guitar? I wonder how many great and amazing potential artists we have lost due to the fact that they were never able to seperate themselves from what everybody else was doing, which is being entertained and feeding their fat faces full of whatever bullshit comes their way. It's all bread and circus!

What we should really be thinking about is who stole my oddballs CD.

did YOU take it?!

hook it to my veins!
