Someone's selling another promo copy of Honeycomb on ebay, and this time there's a picture of the CD cover:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1057&item=4722582009&rd=1
Who knows if it's the official artwork or just something they did for the promo CDs. If it's the actual artwork, the forumers who chosed the colours for the new forum design were spot on...

It's interesting he'd go with the same font twice in a row (FBF also used Clarendon). We got lucky there, as far as the site design goes.

Yeah, it does look like FBF. I just never listen to that one so that went over my head a bit at first.

A promotional disc including all the tracks - wouldn't that make it an advanced copy instead? And honeycomb with an 'e'. It's not like 'e' is close to 'b' on the keyboard to make it a typo. Hasn't this person tried selling this before, but without the artwork uploaded?
Sorry guys, i'm too much of a pessimist. Hope i'm wrong. I might try bidding for it to see what the crack is. The liner notes and inner sleeve will definately confirm or disprove my suspicions
EDIT: a pessimist and wrong |

I always picture a kind of white colour, with some kind of 'honeycomb' theme. Let's have a 'Guess The Honeycomb Cover' comp, whoever gets closest wins!! |

Yeah, I'm hoping it's not (as far as cover art goes, not really an issue in the grand scheme..) looks a little 'naff' to be official. Very unoriginal
EDIT NOW THE DESIGNERS HERE: i mean unoriginal as in there's not much going on other than the main image. |

It's not a Clarendon, but the American Typewriter

Damn, you're right... I think I should stop calling myself a graphic designer...
But it isn't a Clarendon either!

Well there you go folks! The words of a man who would know.
I was thinking with the Nashville influence and the players it would be something more interesting, I don't know what, something that does justice to the songs inside. Who cares, huh? The cover isn't what will be playing through my system, it's all about the music.

Chicken, check out the Frank Black portion: Click here
Now, I have to admit that Honeycomb is different, too, because there's some roundness that doesn't appear in the clarendon's that I looked at, but I'd venture that it's probably in the same family or else is a very close relative. Possibly sister?
Actually, it almost looks like Clarendon Wide Light with bold applied to it. What do you think?: Click here

I think I like it. I just wish the font weren't B&W. They should have replaced the white font by an ivory like on the border of the pic.

I know what you mean about the font colour, vilainde (the font too, very modern) And I guess they want the names for marketing reasons, but I would love to see the cover with no text, just on the spine.

Take a closer look at the bottom serifs of the M, that's characteristic for the American Typewriter. Hard to see due to the screen resolution, but I'm convinced.
If you want it for the new forum look, just let me know...

Hi, I'm the person that did the cover art for Honeycomb (not Jean). The picture on ebay is an ok reproduction of it, but it looks better in person b/c you can't really see the texture very well in this particular photo. I gave Frank five different designs for the cover, and he chose the one he wanted. All of the designs looked very different, some of them had figures in them and some were completely abstract (like the one he ended up choosing for the cover). Maybe, if you ask him really nicely, Frank will use one of the other designs for a promo or a T-Shirt or something :) I am a HUGE Frank Black fan, and have been for a long time, so it was an amazing experience to design a cover for him. I listed to Honeycomb many, many times before (and during, actually) working on the different cover designs, so you can rest assured that the cover is not something I just threw together at the last minute. If you have questions about the cover art (or want to put a bunch of my paintings in your gallery, ha ha), you can post them and I will try to reply in a timely fashion. |

Hi 007, wow! Thanks for this opportunity.
What exactly is the front cover of, please? Oh, and who pointed Frank in your direction? As a fan it must have been pretty exciting.

Sorry about this, too many questions in this head o' mine:
Can you clear up the font query too, is it a version of 'American Typewriter'?
