Just finished Deepsix. Picked up Tony Daniel's Superluminal at Borders and didn't realize it was book two of a series, I hate when they don't make it clear. So I found Metaplanetary, book 1, at the library since I couldn't find it in stores. I hate carrying hard cover books to and from work, oh well.

try snow crash...it's an earlier work and a little unpolished but I still liked it alot...
What did you think of Diamond Age, kitten?
I've just totally fallen for this guy's writing...i love the style, the characters are well-developed...just brilliant.
suggestions: you might try Interface--it's a little techy, a little political but a fun read.
I would highly recommend Cryptonomicon. THIS is a good read...don't let the 1200 pages intimidate...

Marshal Smith is what I think of as new breed sci fi, I remember being reminded of him when I read Diamond age, and I gave one of his books (Only Forward) to the guy who gave me diamond age and he really enjoyed it. It's quite (oh I hate this word) edgy writing and funny, I like the funny aspects Only forward is a strange book but very addictive, it's set in some sort of alternate plain where there are neighbourhoods deifined by type, a neighbourhood for workers, a neighbourhood for criminals, the rich people, those big into colour, even a neighbourhood for cats, and the central character is a man who can do things. There's a tube station called fuck station zero for heavens sake, I love that. Another one of his, "Spares", centres around a farm for spares, people who are rich enough pay to have a clone made of their children at birth so if anything should happen, an accident or disease, they would have spare parts for their loved ones, and the farm is where the spares are kept. Another writer, British guy, who is new breed sci fi is Jeff Noon. (mister rumours, I remember neuromancer being hard going at first but worth it)
Christ look at me, geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

_____1776____
Well researched by David McCullough.
Complete with British battle maps,in depth analysis of George Washington, Nathanael Greene, Henry Knox, Joseph Reed, Henry Clinton, Lord North and the Howe brothers. We, rebels, should feel lucky that Capt. John Montresors ( yes, the island is named after him) was not in charge or things may have turned out differently. And I thought the NY - Boston rivalry thing was just about baseball. History books never did this war justice, or any other war, for that matter.

just started 'all tomorrow's parties' i like gibson's style as well, but this book isn't catching me like Pattern Recognition did. I disliked Cayce (and that spelling of that name) right from the start but grew to appreciate her as the book went on and I had fun with that book. I expect I'll like ATP after I've gotten into a bit more.... also reading (chronic multiple book reader):
i think i may have to retire this one pretty soon since it's just sort of sitting by the bed at this point
oh yeah also this one

REALLY?? me too! I just this last year sort of fell in love with them, especially Rick and Levon, after thinking they were too 'backwoods' for me... my boyfriend adores them and the copy of This Wheel's on Fire I am reading actually has Levon's autograph in it! Yay! I love nothing more than realizing that others can like the same random combination of music I do. I think my true moment of rapture with The Band was after a heartbreaking conversation with a perhaps terminally ill friend and I sat down at home and listened to Whispering Pines and it made me into complete jello.
oh sorry i am a notorious thread hijacker. ummm back on topic. I read the latest newsweek last night. Found the article about arthtitis to be somewhat useful since I have that particular affliction. Also started on the latest Blender last night. Really enjoyed the Foo article.

Llama, your picture of fleshmarket close has only just shown up for me, how is it?
I haven't read ATP, do you think it's worth picking up guys?
Right now reading:
Was reading:
but some girl at uni thieved it off me because she had an afternoon off and was bored. can't find the right cover for that, it's an old orange penguin book anyway.
I really need new books :(

This is the funniest book I have read in a long long time, Ikeep stopping to work on my own book or read passages to my friends. Here's my favourite paragraph so far, character is in an airport:
A national guardsman tracked me from his checkpoint. His cammies, with their neon flecks, appeared designed for casino combat. I wondered if the fucker was profiling my T-shirt. Would I have time to explain that Anal Jihad had been a reasonably bitching South Jersey hardcore band before he had me gagged, prone?
This is pretty funny too:
This is my second PKD after The Man In The High Castle:
Just finished this and liked it a lot:
I love this guy:
I finished ATP a few weeks ago and first half was wonderful but the second is like something out of a Bruce Willis film.

yes, i am enjoying it very much so. my only complaint is that its density and relative lack of drama keep its pacing slow, but i'm enjoying it nonetheless.

oh good, at least I've got that to look forward to ; ) Reading the new spin with Bono Beck and ummmm Ice, no Dr Dre. I think. anyway, it's the 100 greatest albums one and Surfer Rosa's in the list, por supuesto...I could bathe in Cactus right about now... I have a confession to make. I am just now starting to read Gigantic.
