A Pixies article in an old issue of Record Collector mentions that when they signed to Warners, they released two live albums in the US. Is this true? And was the Head On single only made available as a radio promo? Also, I'd like to get my hands on copy of the Alec Eiffel US 12" if I could! |

I don't remember them issuing a live album officaly out side of BBC or the Pixiesdiscs recordings. At least here in the US.
I have no clue what they would have released as a radio promo. |

Er, I know that(), I'm talking about a single release-I believe there was only a radio promo, and it was'nt issued commercially as a single. |

"HEAD ON" was a commercial single release I believe. I have one that was pressed in Canada. Can't remeber the b-sides at the moment, although two of the three b-side tracks were live recordings. Also "head on" on the single was the LP version, not like the one you hear in the videos section of the Pixies DVD, which is an alt recording or mix.

The songs of the "Head On" canadian single were :
U-MASS (album version) Planet Of Sound (live brixton Academy 1991) Tame (live Brixton Academy 1991) Debaser (live Cabaret Metro 1989).
For the live, it was a promo and not a real album. It was part of an offer to the subscribers of the french magazine "Les Inrockuptibles" and the setlist is :
1) Bone Machine 2) Cactus 3) Debaser 4) Gigantic 5) Gouge Away 6) The Holiday Song 7) Nimrod's Son
(All the songs were recorded at the Cabaret Metro in 1989).
Elektra released this one in North America for the promo of the band between "Doolittle" and "Bossanova".
There was a lot of promo singles too just before "Trompe Le Monde", "Letter to Memphis" for instance or a single incorporating three songs (U-MASS, Subbachultcha and I don't remember the third one... ). The same for "Alec Eiffel", there is a french promo, japanese promo and "Head On" also gets its own japanese version.
Hope I help you and answer to your question. :) |

There was another live album (I don't know where it was released) released by 4AD as a promo entitled, simply, Live, featuring several songs from (I think) the August 10, 1989 performance in Chicago. There are many bootleg versions of this with the same cover and everything. My friend owns the actual 4AD LP--I don't know how rare it is, if at all.

It must be rare enough-I've never heard of it, and it's a promotional item, too. I've got the 2 disc Death To The Pixies, a vinyl bootleg called Souls On Fire recorded in Holland, and a bootleg CD called Transatlantic. |

15th May 1989, at the Pink Pop festival. Only the first 9 tracks where recorded there, the rest are from the 1988 Boston rehersal tapes;
Pink Pop: Wave Of Mutalation. Debaser. Monkey Gone To Heaven. Crackity Jones. Dead. No. 13 Baby. Isle De Encanta. Gigantic. Vamos.
Boston Rehersal: Dead. I Bleed. Gigantic. Hey. Monkey Gone To Heaven. Wave Of Mutalation. Debaser.
The Transatlantic bootleg was recorded at the Cabaret Metro, Chicago, 10th August 1989 and in Konserthalle, Vienna, 11 June 1989.
