Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs
It's good, but it's no Weather Systems.
Cass McCombs - Prefection
It's good, but it's no A.
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
This is very good.
etc etc etc.

Excellent topic. I also have to add FUNERAL (as I am playing it right now), along with;
You are the Quarry by Morrissey and Franz Ferdinand - both in heavy rotation since last summer. Awake is the New Sleep by Ben Lee O by Damien Rice The Best of the Mamas and the Papas Parallel Lines by Blondie Version 2.0 by Garbage This Year's Model by Elvis Costello
I also recently made a "FB&TC's Nostalgia Mix" that I have been playing a lot.
those are the ones that pop in my head right now. When I go home and look at my iTunes, I will be able to think of more.

I buy so much new music that it's hard for any album to stay on for long. I wouldn't say any get 'heavy rotation'.

Lately...
Why: New album, so I'm getting it engrained in my mind, as well as because it's an amazing, beautiful album.
Why: Classic, this one's almost always in my player. Recorded, of course, right after Van Dyke dropped out of SMiLE--Brian's music most certainly had an influence on him. What an amazing album. If you haven't heard it, get it. It makes Sgt. Pepper sound like Sesame Street.
why: It's Glenn Gould playing Bach's The Art of the Fugue--Do I really need a reason?
Why: Really amazing album by Brian Wilson's brother. I find myself listening to it a lot lately.

it's definitely worth the purchase. there are many solid songs on it, and the few that didn't really catch me the first time around have really grown on me. this is usually the album i use to introduce people to the fiery furnaces.
as for my sig, it's taken out of the bible. genesis, to be exact. it's the verse that inspired some of the lyrics to "all my ghosts." it's just these few really random verses that introduce a race of "giants", call them "heroes of old, men of renown", and then drop the subject, never to be revisited again. it's really quite jarring.

Yes, I've read that section, it is quite jarring. They are referred to as the "Nefilim" (sp?). Check out Zecharia Sitchin's series of books "The Earth Chronicles" for more about who these "men of renown" might have been. It's a fascinating read.

"nephilim", i think. i've read some that they may have just been larger than normal. possibly ancestors of goliath, also a "giant." they idea that they were angels that had children with humans is, i'm sure, highly inaccurate (depending on how accurate one believes the bible to be, of course).
the bible is full of stories that are violent, yet very humorous because of the matter-of-fact language it uses in telling the story. take, for instance, the story of samson. it's about one chapter long, but oh the death that samson dishes out in those handful of verses! good stuff. easy to see why frank finds it worth writing songs about.

The book of 1 Enoch reports that the Nephilim were 300 cubits tall. And I understand that this book only narrowly missed being included in the Bible. In fact, I think it might be in the Coptic Bible. Of course, this book was part of the tradition of midrash, in which Jewish scholars would expand upon what they thought to be important parts of the Scriptures. God only knows (pun intended) whether this account of the Nephilim was anything like what the original scribe was thinking of. (Of course, if you accept both as divinely ordained, I suppose it would be. I'm not religious myself, though, although I am fascinated with a lot of Biblical mythology.)
I believe some of these giants were encountered by Joshua in one of the cities that he conquered.

So Bible mentions a lot about these Nefilim giant guys (had dinner with my landlord last week and he told me in the Islam franchise of the "I think what God meant to say" brigade they call them Genios - Spanish for genii) yet nothing about the giant prehistoric bones we keep digging up here and there. Hmm.

Maybe the ancient Greeks were right, and these Nephilim were actually Titans.
By the way, this has been in pretty heavy rotation as of late:

I can´t stop listening to this. I used to think people who listened to the same song over and over again were psychos until I heard Hanging Upside Down:
