Well, it's hard to tell: this record is kinda special to me because it's one of the records my brother used to listen a lot when I was a kid. When I re-discovered Roxy Music by myself later on, I came back to this album which I like very much. But this is a real subjective opinion.

Now a more objective opinion: if you don't know Roxy Music yet, it's certainly not the record to buy in first (buy the 1st, the 2nd and then the 3rd, you won't be disappointed). It's considered as their "commercial period". But, it's still a good album with some good songs. Brian Ferry is always Brian Ferry, so it's a pleasure to hear him sing so well and the arangements are great. And there's something special about the general tone of that record that I can't describe with words.

Err... that was my first RM record. But you're probably right.

see? Finally we can agree on a record!
Heywood, do yourself a favour and buy this CD. Plus it's always on sale. Yeah, "commercial" if you want, who cares. It has a bunch of amazing songs, and "To Turn You On" is IMO the best Roxy Music song ever. The first 3 or 4 songs on the record are fantastic: More Than This, The Space Between, Avalon, India... and the rest ain't bad either. An 80's record stuffed with slows, that sold millions, AND that has some great production, songwriting and singing, well, that's something you won't find everyday.

Thanks for the tip, it's only like $2 for the vinyl at my local record shop. The only other one I have by this group is the Viva Roxy Music live album which is just amazing.

not this one, Carl, but he produced some songs of "Houdini" indeed, and also plays guitar and drums on two songs of it ("Sky Pup" and "Spread Eagle Beagle")

Stranglers: Coast to Coast (live on tour) - 2,000 copies only

Many great songs from their glorious years (1977-1982), mixed with some good songs from their last album, Northfolk Coast.
