So, the Pixies ripped off Dinosaur Jr. who ripped off Dinosaur Sr.? Well, doesn't that make the Pixies even worse? Copying a band that copied another band? I mean at least Jr. was copying family.
And you know that shit is true!

dino's been around since the triassic era (read '86ish) but enjoyed most of there success post-pixies circa '93 with the release 'where you been'. personally if you are interested i would recommend everything from the the sst releases and up to 'where you been'. about 5 total. his voice just isn't nearly as enjoyable as franks, IMO. |

Yeah, because there was already a band called Dinosaur(comprised of OAP rockers!)they had to change they're name. Maybe they could have called themselves Baby Dinosaurs!(Or maybe not!)
[EDITED-'comprised' of OAP rockers, not 'comprimised'] |

I'm a huge Dinosaur jr / J Mascis fan, and they just re-released their first 3 albums with remastered songs and bonus tracks. The band also is making a reunion ( does it sound familiar? ) with the three original members playing some festivals next summer |

I really don't hear any Husker Du in the Pixies. Husker was more Ramone-like. I loved Husker, but I can honestly say taht I don't think one of their songs sounds like a Pixies song. The Pixies were more diverse and trippy.

i agree with not hearing any husker du in pixies but i disagree with the ramone-like comparison. sometimes grant hart and bob mould would yell their songs but that's about as far as similarities would go.
i'm loving the remaster releases and bonus tracks idea, it really makes me want to get the albums that i had on vinyl for the cool extra stuff.
stiff little fingers released three of their albums with bonus discs (one was a dvd) last week. and elvis costello did also about a year ago? |

So did TREX do that song... get it gone vaga bond or whatever that song is that Powerstaion covered back in the day? That's a good tune.
I am embarrased to admit that until a few months ago I thought that TREX was this heavy meatal band. I caught a song on the radio recently and it rocked. It made me wonder if the Pixes were TREX influenced.
Anyway, I need to check some T Rex out. |

No, but fried beer is very healthy. The unhealthy qualities of the two components cancel each other out.

For your information, the "Jr." in Dinosaur Jr. should not have a full stop, because it is a contraction in which the last letter is the same as the last letter of the full word, "Junior".
For example, Doctor should be shortened to "Dr" and not "Dr."

I think the rules might be different in different forms of English. In American English, I'm pretty sure you are supposed to put a period after "Jr".

It's definitely a trend that originates from America. Most people over here will still use full stops though, very few people know that they're not supposed to put them there.

Actually, you might be interested in reading the wikipedia article on abbreviations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbreviation. After all, Jr. is an abbreviation, not a contraction. |
