The Pixies will launch a three-week U.S. tour on May 26th in Portland, Oregon. Several dates will feature the band performing early and late shows, as well as making festival appearances. Formed in Boston in 1986, the Pixies -- singer/guitarist Frank Black (formerly Black Francis), bassist Kim Deal, guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer David Lovering -- recorded five albums before disbanding in 1992. The band members spent a decade apart before reuniting to tour last year, when they received arguably more attention then they did in their heyday.
"It's been overwhelming," Black told Rolling Stone last year. "But, without sounding like a braggart, I knew it would be well received. The Pixies have always been met with a celebratory atmosphere at our gigs -- even our earlier ones."
During the reunion, the Pixies recorded and released their first new song in thirteen years, "Bam Thwok," sold only through iTunes. But plans for a full-length album have not been made.
"I think we're aware of the fact that the material would have to be creme de la crme," Black said. "We're not really in a rush to go there yet."
Black will release a new solo album, Honeycomb, on July 19th. The set features the singer-songwriter backed by country/soul veterans Spooner Oldham, Steve Cropper and David Hood.
More Pixies dates are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

As first revealed here in February, the Pixies will return to the road this summer, with plans to play two shows on the same night in a handful of markets. The outing will begin May 26-27 with two doubleheaders in Portland, Ore. North American dates are set through June 14 in Wantagh, N.Y., with more to be added.
The group's agent, Marc Geiger, previously told Billboard.com that at the two-shows-in-one-night affairs, "the first show would be a set of rare songs and B-sides, and the second would be the hits," but it was unclear at deadline if that would still be the case.
The Pixies will also drop in on several festivals, including May 28 at the Sasquatch! Festival in George, Wash., and the inaugural CMJ Rock Hall Music Fest on June 8 in Cleveland. A European run is also in the works for late August.
Pixies manager Ken Goes tells Billboard.com that a DVD chronicling the group's 2004 reunion tour is still in development. "It will focus on one show, but will also contain excerpts from shows from around the world," he says, adding that no release date has yet been determined.
Also in the discussion stage is a fall Frank Black tour in support of his upcoming solo album, "Honeycomb." That set is due July 19 via Back Porch/EMI.
Here are the Pixies' tour dates:
May 26-27: Portland, Ore. (Roseland Theatre; two shows both nights) May 28: George, Wash. (Sasquatch! Festival) May 30: San Francisco (Warfield Theatre; two shows) June 2: Los Angeles (Wiltern Theatre; two shows) June 5: Morrison, Col. Now that they're back, the Pixies just don't want it to end. A year after they reunited, the band has scheduled a string of summer tour dates that will have them visiting a number of festivals and playing two-a-day shows in several cities. The original four members of the group — singer/guitarist Frank Black, singer/bassist Kim Deal, guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer David Lovering — will launch the three-week run on May 26 in Portland, Oregon. The tour is currently scheduled to wrap up June 14 in Wantagh, New York, according to a group spokesperson.
In addition to appearances at the Sasquatch Festival, Atlanta's Music Midtown Festival and the CMJ/Rock Hall Fest, the group will double up in a number of cities, playing an early and a late show.
Last year's shows — the first since the group disbanded in 1992 — were received with universal acclaim, and fans salivated at the iTunes release of the new song "Bam Thwok," but bandmembers have been elusive when asked if they intend to record a new album
