...when you were a little kid, the very first song.
What was it?

For me it was "Et Maintenant" by Gilbert Becaud,
this kinda sappy French ballad from, I guess,
1965. I have no idea why I liked it so much
but I would ask my grandmother to play the 45
for me.

I remember we used to sing that 'A little mouse with clogs on, there on the stair, etc.' song and Rolf Harris' Two Little Boys in school. Everyone used to cry during Two Little Boys! And my parents had a tape with the muppets singing all these songs, and the Hans Christian Anderson soundtrack("Anderson, that's me!!"), which were really cool. I used tos it in the kitchen and listen to them.

Probably a Doors song or Don Mcleans American Pie. I really should try to listen to some more Don Mclean, "Vincent" is a great damn song.

Probably Rock the Boat.

One of the first 45's I ever bought was Late December by Frankie Valley and the 4 Seasons.

"...but he's got high hopes..he's got high hopes..he's got high in the sky apple pie hopes..."

Sinatra.
My mom used to play it on piano.

I have no idea. I am guessing it was probably a nursery rhyme.

it had to be a beatles song, as my parents played beatles records all the time, but the first song i remember wanting to OWN was 'daydream believer' by the monkees. this is back when the monkees tv show was on nickelodeon in the afternoon, and i heard it on there, and then saw a commercial for a cassette 'best of' that you could call in for. so i made my mom call in, and was mad she didn't use a credit card (she didn't have one) so she had to mail in a check, so it took WEEKS. but i finally got my monkees greatest hits tape and i treasured it for a few years, until beatlemania swept over me nearly 25 years after the rest of the country

my dad used to tape songs from the chart show that I'd go nuts over as a kid, Eddy Grant 'I don't wanna dance' being a prime example. Off the top of my head Yellowman 'This old man' Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney 'Say Say Say'

Apparantly if Queen came on though I'd be dancing with the television like a baby on acid.

Yeah...I gotta say the Beatles too. I was about 5 or 6. I remember my brother, who is quite a bit older than me, had Sgt. Pepper and I would sneak into his room and play it over and over again until I had the whole album memorized. The song I remember singing the most, "a little help from my friends"

I remember loving the Christmas song We Three Kings when I was a little kid.

I didn't pay too much attention to popular music when I was a kid. I remember MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This getting me somewhat interested in the radio, but it wasn't until Sir Mix-A-Lot's Baby Got Back that I got into watching MTV and listening to the radio a lot. I would watch MTV all the time just hoping to see the video for Baby Got Back, which I never saw until YEARS later. But I managed to get into other popular music in the process.

Let 'em riot. We're Sonic-fuckin'-Death Monkey.
