Well.. I just realized recently that this band I used to ignore when I was young at the time of their glory, is maybe one of the very few original rock bands of the 90's. Their music is growing old so well.
Even their last 2 Machinas sound like good angry music.

That's all...

I'm a regular kid!

I never "got" the Pumpkins. I tried so hard, but I just didn't like em (aside from Today and Bullet With.. which are cool).

Mayonaise.

Early Pumpkins is some very special stuff.

There was something special on every album, really.

Right you are! I was so lucky to see them in the 90's. They were brilliant.

I just heard an interview with Billy. He hinted at a reunion.....but who knows.

Too much songs on Mellon Collie, I guess. But an excellent record anyway. See my first mix for the swap game as a proof.

I liked those songs written by the other guy. You know, the one with the asian look, let me see... James Iha. I don't know what is he doing now.

I made a google search. He's doing a lot of things. Poppy stuff, mainly.

A lot of the songs James Iha wrote and recorded with the Pumpkins ended up in obscurity as B-sides to singles. I always liked his poppy love songs. After Mellon Collie, I don't think the Pumpkins did anything but Corgan songs.

I was never really blown away by anything after Mellon Collie, though Adore was a fine record at points. I had just outgrown the Pumpkins by the time it was released. Machina has some moments, too, but once again, I just listened to so much of them when I was 15-17 so I was fiending for something non-Pumpkins by the time that record came out. I'd say Siamese Dream is my favorite record of theirs. Mayonaise is one of the greatest songs of all-time.

Let 'em riot. We're Sonic-fuckin'-Death Monkey.

Siamese Dream is excellent and Mellon Collie is half amazing. If they trimmed off the fat it would be even better than Siamese Dream IMO.

When Adore first came out, I was working in an indie record store and spun it a lot. Didn't think it was all that great.

In mid-2003, a good five years later, I had a hankerin' to go out and purchase it. I had a complete about-face.

Adore is one of the most emotion-packed, beautiful, and haunting album I've ever come across. Not a lot of stuff makes me want to immediatly burst into tears.

This album does.

In my opinion.

Gish is my fave. I know some kids from Chi land that saw them at local shows. I was banned from seeing them in their heyday (w. Nirvana opening). Great music ... not as good as the Pixies. I gotta say it kinda turned me off b/c it seemed like Billy C got a little egomanical. Don't know... maybe it's the fact they got so popular... or maybe i never thought their stuff sounded as good as Gish.

Man, when I was 13 I would have whizzed on a electric fence to see Nirvana and the Pumpkins. Seriously.

I spun the shit out of Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie back in the day. They're still good, but I just can't listen to them anymore. I'm not sure why.

They could be irritating, but I love Siva. Why do bands have to get big and crawl up they're own arses? By the way, has anyone heard about Billy Corgan's forthcoming solo album? Robert Smith joins him for a cover of the Bee Gees To Love Somebody.

I was a pretty huge pumpkin fan for quite awhile. I was obsessed with them really. It was interesting to see them evolve. I don't think it's fair to say they got worse; they just evolved. They got a lot of flack because their post Mellon Collie efforts weren't as high energy as people may have expected.

Weezer: now there is a band that has definitely gotten worse! There new song is awful. And Maladroit...what's the deal with these guys?

The former Smashing Pumpkins front man and Chicago native spent his Friday morning standing alongside the dugouts at Wrigley Field and watching the Cubs take batting practice while joking around with the players.

"If you would have told me when I was 10 years old that one day I would be standing on the field on Opening Day talking to players, I wouldn't have believed you," Corgan said with a laugh. "It's all good. Hope springs eternal."

I seem to be alone in liking the new Weezer single. Far from their best, but I still like it.

I like a few Smashing Pumpkins songs, never bought any albums or anything just dug some stuff. I also think the new Weezer song isn't half bad, it's just a summer jam type of song, not a lot of substance but fun no less. Weezer is actually a lot like Smashing Pumpkins for me, they're ok, but nothing near the hype that a lot of people seem to put out about them.

The first two records are amazing. After that, it's hit and miss. Corgan shouldn't be allowed to produce himself. His voice sounded fine on the first two, then it started sounding like a dentist's drill when Billy took the reigns.

I borrowed Siamese Dream last week to see would it give me any warmglow recollections but apart from Today and the 4th track and Mayonnaise and some other scattered moments it´s been dustgathering mainly.

The 4th track would be Hummer. Wonderful song, and it manages to carry on for about 7 minutes w/o lagging or losing beauty.

As far as Weezer goes, I'm worried/convinced we'll never get records as good as Blue or Pinkerton from that band again. I've liked stuff from Green and Maladroit but it's just not as consistent or raw or sincere as Blue and Pinkerton.

I'm not liking Beverly Hills all that much just because it's such a fun-in-the-sun Smash Mouth kind of song, not that it sounds like Smash Mouth but the attitude of it is along those lines. It's really just an anthem, and I guess that's what the record company wanted for a single. We'll see how the rest of the record is.

Let 'em riot. We're Sonic-fuckin'-Death Monkey.

Gish - great album, good innocent fun, and just pure rock with some spatterings of 60's psychedelia thrown in there. A classic, I would say, though it kind of seems a little immature (not necessarily in a bad way) now that a number of years have passed. standout tracks: Siva, Suffer, Daydream

Siamese Dream - solid as hell, only one stinker in the group (i.e. Spaceboy), at least in my opinion. Mayonaise, GEEK USA, Cherub Rock...all great great rock songs. This album has definitely withstood the test of time.

Pisces Iscariot - even though its supposedly a collection of b-sides and scraps, I can honestly say I've gone back to this album more than any other SP release. Every single song on it is brilliant in its own way, and it sounds most definitively like what I consider the SP sounded like at their apex. Maybe a little less studio-gloss and production is what makes it sound better in my ear. I just always connected with a majority of these songs, can't say exactly why...

Mellon Collie - could have been a one-disc SOLID album. instead it meanders around quite a bit and the experimentation ranges from successful to downright cheesy at some point. This is where they started losing me...

Haven't listened to a SP release since. Heard some stuff off of Adore and Machina and all that, but it just always sounded like Corgan ego-trip and the elements that I so loved in Gish/Siamese/Pisces just weren't there any more.

btw...Tar Tar. Love your quote. That is one of the best lines in High Fidelity, delivered in a way ONLY Jack Black can do.

I don't like the first albums, they sound like heavy rock for teenagers who dig Kurt Cobain (I know most of you do, I don't for I am really special!!!!!!!!) From mellon Collie, billy corgan was more sure of himself (though I hate Bullet with buttercraps wings for it sounds so much like an attempt to be a single for crazzzzy cooool kids)It's only recently that I admited I liked his voice that I could not stand..; but U know, you change... at that time I thought it was not cool to love Presley, now I can hardly find something better in substance in Modern Music (maybe David Thomas??) Ava Adore is a pure beauty as a song, a kind a modern T REX song. The album has nothing to do with pumpkins I admit and I agree. Yes the band became more like Billy Corgan and 2 Smashing Pumpkins. But it was nice, adult, strong and beautiful. So I am waiting for an album by Billy Corgan and The Smashing Pumpkins for alone, he is not very productive. The Machinas are really strong. Good hard rock even though I hate hard rock.

I'm a regular old fashion music admirer.
