Do you often wake up with a song in your head?

I don't think I do usually, but this morning it was Maria McKee - You Gotta Sin to Get Saved for no reason at all. I've only listened to it once or twice in the last 6 months.

Yesterday it was the new Garbage single 'Why Do You Love Me', which is ok, but I've only heard it twice. I do like Shirley Manson's stage posturing though.

Anyway, what song? Often? Any idea why?

The one on Gold that goes "It's over, it's harder now that it's over, it's harder now that it's over, now that the gloves are off".

"Harder now that it's over"

I had to check it.

I sometimes wake up with "Horrible Day". Someday I'll hate that song.

I write songs when I´m dreaming and keep a notepad by my pillow, some hopeless, some I´m proud of. Yesterday I heard Dali tried sleeping with his finger in a cup of water with a spoon in it so when he was dreaming deep his finger would twitch and wake him up so he´d have the most interesting parts to draw from. Paul McCartney´s excuse for Yellow Submarine was he wrote it while halfasleep.

every day for like 2 years i woke up to my stereo playing 'tired of sex' by weezer, and the opening line goes "i'm tired....so tired...." and every morning i would answer "me too" - so the effect was "i'm tired(me too) so tired (me too)." this became such a habit then when i went to college every morning i would wake up and in my head hear the opening feedback to the song

That sounds like it should've been a scene in High Fidelity

Has anyone ever had the Buzzcocks' song "E.S.P." floating through their head for several days? I have. It's downright hypnotic.

Best...post...ever.....

I hear songs in my head all the time, from waking to sleep.
I also do this weird thing when I "hear" entire book passages
in my head. Like I'll be moving along in my day and then I'll
realize that I just "heard" three paragraphs from some
novel I read five years ago. It is totally weird but it explains
why I have absolutely no short-term memory.

Its on my genre comp, dayanara. I'll bet you read the track listing and that triggered the memory.
FWIW, that track is from the Cold Mountain soundtrack...it is a very haunting rendition - just fiddle and male vocal - Dirk Powell i think.
Beautiful.

So, needless to say, if you were waiting around with five bucks in your hand waiting to buy my upcoming brochure Understanding Poop, you can put that five bucks away, 'cause it ain't happenin.

well, i know it isn't Jack White.

I should edit to say that I'm 'fairly certain' that the version that is on my comp is from "Songs From The Mountain"...which i was told was the soundtrack...but now I learn that it is not at all the soundtrack:

http://store.draughthorsepress.com/songsfromthemountain.html

Lesson learned. Apology.
In the future, I'll know my song well before i start singin.

'songs from the mountain' is a collection of songs written for the BOOK, not the film.

practically the same thing

D, you've been so nice to me in my hour of need, I thought
I'd call a truce of sorts and post this, though it isn't of him
singing that song (which he does sing!).

But I still don't see what the attraction is.

I'd rather wake up
With Meg White in my bed
Than wake up with some crappy
Song in my head.

It's a hit single! Somebody get me an agent!

I woke up with a word in my head, and as far as I know, it has no meaning at all.

This morning I woke up with Ocean Man playing in my head, maybe this is because of the summer weather that we're having already, a bit early.

Now, I got to go listen to it.
