to find a decent 1br 1 ba in my area you'd be lucky to find one for under 1400. if you want something actually nice, you're looking at more like 15 1600.
there was an article recently in LA weekly about how fucked rent prices are here. it's not Manhattan bad, but almost

London is pretty damn fucked up in terms of rental prices - especially for what you get. One of the main reasons I somehow landed up in the north. A friend of mine had the ceiling collapse on her while she was sleeping thanks to her arsehole ruthless moneygrabbing landlord - she now lives in a squat - infinitely safer and way cheaper.

I got quite lucky with this flat through a private landlord, it's huge and we only pay £200pcm each inclusive of bills, the area is crappy but crappy areas sometimes lead to comedy moments.
The last place I lived was expensive one bedroomed flat that was £400pcm excluding bills on the worst road in a very bohemian area, I fucking loved that flat though.

floop- I would suggest that you use the anonymous email that craigslist provides.
also, this might seem obvious, but west side rentals is actually worth shelling out for. they run all those bogus ads in the paper, but their listing service is actually legit, and the only way I could have found my apartment. btw, dream on if you think you're going to find something in venice or santa monica. |
