...if they're going to play the same set of songs again at the summer festivals.
They will still suck if they play a few more songs from Bossanova and/or Trompe le monde.
They won't suck if they play new songs to promote the new album.

No.
The only way the Pixies could suck would be if we lived in a parallel universe in which [insert name of lame "popular" musical act of your choice here] is good music.
If they do all the things you list above, they will certainly disappoint. But that's a far cry from sucking.

i'm not ready to say they were just going through the motions on last year's tour. as far as this year is concerned, only one date has been officially confirmed, to my knowledge (sasquatch). frank still has time to pull a dozen rabbits out of his hat, who knows what the summer will bring.

The Pixies do not suck. Silly boy ;-)
Yes, it would be a pity if they didn't dip a bit more extensively into the rest of the catalogue this year; several of my favourite songs lurk on Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde. But ultimately, if they don't, they don't. I'd still go.
I mean, do you ever watch your favourite film and accuse it of sucking because the basic plot elements never change? |

Frank Black said they didn't have enough time to reharse all the songs, so they didn't play a lot from Bossanova and Trompe le monde. But will they reharse some "new" songs in regard of last tour? I don't think so.
They will play crowd favorites, like Bone Machine, Gouge Away... Maybe two or three surprises. No more, no less. But what do we know? They always surprised their world, so let it be... |

I put in another vote for NO.
However, I do fully support the idea of b-sides shows. Or, completely mix up the setlist so there are no more A-sides concerts. If they did have a new album and new songs, that would be even better. But to say they suck without a new album? No.

The tour could be given a whole new angle if they'd just bring Eric into the fold. Not only would that let them do some other songs that sort of need him, but he could augment existing stuff. Eric's a master at not getting in the way of what the song originally was and still somehow adding to it.

You know I was thinking about this again last night and I have come to the conclusion that there is no way that they will play a B-sides/Trompe/Bossanova dominated set at the Carliing festivals at least. It just 'aint gonna happen outisde of thewir own headline tour. They wouldn't get away with it at a festival. I think they would possibly even get boo'd by a lot of people who turn up to hear 'Monkey...', 'Debaser', 'Where Is...' etc. I'd rather they stick to usual set if it means they don't get boo'd. I think I'd cry if they got boo'd, I really do. Then get violent.

Mike thats daft, plenty of bands go to festivals and play new stuff that hasn't been released yet (or old stuff thats not the favourites) and don't get booed
you only get booed if you are 50 cent
and then you get bottles of piss thrown at you too
