There She Goes, My Beautiful World.
What a fucking fantastic song! My GF got the album the other day, didn't think I'd like it but it's really good, and even though I knew that song, it's really grown on me hearing it on the CD a few times, classic stuff!
The Monkey Helper has arrived http://www.monkeyhelper.co.uk (that is my band) or to go straight to the music downloads http://www.soundclick.com/bands/3/monkeyhelpermusic.htm |

All I've got is Murder Ballads, which I recieved a few days ago, and still haven't listened to much.

Nick Cave is fabulous, since the Birthday Party he has done a lot for music. Sir Rock, they are all very good, but Murder Ballads it's not the best example of his music, in my opinion.

I like what I have, that being the Best Of and the last before Lyre/Abbatoir. I like it, its good stuff, but I know a lot of people who hate Nick Cave with a passion, which I can also see.
Rita, I guess you're more inclined towards the Birthday Party-ish tracks like Her To Eternity? I have to confess I'm more of a fan of the balladic, storytelling type songs: 'Straight To You', 'Are You The One...', 'Henry Lee' etc. I was never a big fan of 'The Mercy Seat' even, until the Johnny Cash version made me realise how good the song is.

I have exactly the same as what cheesenut has and again I like what I have, I keep meaning to get more.
and I always loved the mercy seat (but it's understandable, I have better taste)

What do you mean Rita? What about Murder Ballads do you not like? Is it just that it isn't representational of his entire catalogue?

I like murder ballads,I have it, it's just that sir rock, I think that doesn't represents his work, and for a beginner, it might not be the best. Boatman call is a very good example too.
Cheese, that's where I started, From her to Eternity is amazing, my favourite! I kep my vinyl in a safe place.

are you saying that Boatman's Call isn't the right one to begin with? I've got several songs downloaded from iTunes and was planning on getting it (Boat.Call) but if there's another I should start with... |

I'd start with either "Your Funeral, My Trial" or "From Her To Eternity"
-
YFMT has many ballad-y moments. FHTE sounnds much like a lost Birthday Party album to me.
Blixa Bargeld seems like he had much more, um, presence on those two albums.

What I said is that Boatman Call is better to begin than Murder Ballads! But Abbattoir Blues and the Lyre of Orpheus is a masterpiece!

I wouldn't be a Nick Cave fan if Boatman's Call had been my first album.
He would have been written off as some dull, moody crooner. The disc would have landed on some CD shop's "USED - CHEAP" shelf.
-
Of course, having said that, I really dig the Boatman's Call.

What do you mean Obfuscate, I really can't understand you! You don't like Boatman's call? And I completly agree with you, Your Funeral, My Trial" or "From Her To Eternity" are the best, I love his firsts albums, I just don't think that for a begginer they are easy, as Birthday Party isn't. Although Junk Yard is great!

"Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus" are FANTASTIC. I am in awe.
I thought this thread would be about the 3-CD set of rarities that comes out at the end of the month... I'd like to know if there's more to it than uberfan ear-candy. Guess I'll wait for the reviews.
