since im bored...here's my idea of some of the best tracks the dude's done...

Death is Coming to Get You - I Get Lonesome - Erase the Sun - Ramshackle - Bogusflow - Girl of My Dreams - Lampshade - Dead Melodies - Painted Eyelids - Rowboat - Whiskeyclone Hotel - Cancelled Check - Pay No Mind - Brother - Cold Brains - Strange Invitation - Feather in Your Cap - Hollow Log - Lost Cause - Nothing I Havent Seen - Static

almost all of those are some really chill stuff..."death is coming to get you" isnt too chill, but its a pretty impressive young ranting song heh

I've been sent back here by my other half to say that Guero is a grower.

I need to listen to it a whole lot more - apparently.

guero's solid...i just dont like that style of his work, myself.

blues/hiphop using mostly non-traditional hiphop drum beat samples at work...there's a latin feel to some of the tracks mixing with the blues/hiphop

the 'dust bros' did a solid job with this one and it dont come off as much as a joke as 'midnight vultures'

I still think it's a mediocre offering from him. Or maybe my expectations were just too high, but I expected more with him teaming up with the Dust Brothers again.

I really like 'Guero', and I must say the more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. Many of its (best) tracks remind me of 'Odelay', but as a whole it sounds more varied and, say, less noisy. 'E-Pro' is a good first single, 'Girl' should be the next one imho. 4 stars out of 5. - Frog, FB.net Magazine.

Thanks for the link Floop!

Yeah, Guero takes a few listens..it's like that with Beck, imo.

Right now I'm listening to him do a duet with Willie Nelson. I'm a very strong advocate of Beck visiting different styles. I think Guero is a top notch album. It hasn't quite hit me fully, as I find it to be a grower. The limited edition CD-DVD audio version is great. The bonus tracks and remixes are worth the money alone. I dig Nigel's work, and enjoyed his production on "Girl." I swear he was in charge of the remix, but it turns out it was someone else. And I love the production on Sea Changes. Just about every comment I've read on that album seems to focus on how it's so mellow and introspective, or moody. What amazes me is how beautiful the arrangements and the recording quality of the songs are. Everything sits so perfectly, and every last second of the album is crystal clear. (He's had his newer albums mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering. Best in the business. That's where the band I engineer goes to get their music mastered.) I know that goes beyond Beck's songwriting, but that's just it. He likes to take full advantage of everything he can, whether that's his affection for funky grooves, as he proved with Midnite Vultures, or a delicious album full of flawless production and subtle brilliance. I'm sorry. I'm gushing. He's just had such a successful career, and there are few artists who have that who actually deserve that these days. I think he's one of them. As you could probably tell, I'm a big fan of Midnite Vultures, too. I wasn't at first, though. I was a big fan of Odelay and Mellow Gold when it came out, and I had a chance to play some of it on my radio show. I started previewing all the tracks and was amazed how I didn't like a single song on it. I was disappointed. Then, a couple of months later, I was on my way out of town, about to head for Minneapolis, and I saw it for sale in a store. I thought I'd give it another chance so I bought it. Within two hours it was quickly catapulted into the top five of my all time favorite "fun" albums. I don't think there's a span of five seconds on that album where you can't tell that Beck is having a good time making it. And I think that's the most important thing. As a musician, that takes the cake for me. He's having a good time with Guero, too. It sounds like he's doing what he wants to do and he's making damn fine music while doing it.

I saw him a couple of times in Ireland and Iīd drop whatever I was doing to see him again, even if it was in a shithole like the Olympia. Actually make that especially if it was in a shithole like the Olympia.

Anybody see him on SNL with his baby this past weekend? Very cute. It was the first time I had heard any of the songs (I really need to get myself to the record store), but they seemed good to me.

Where was his baby?

The SNL gig was *weird*..! Very raw..at least compared to the recording.

Beck looked awesome tho.

At the very end when he and the cast were "saying goodnight". I don't know for sure it was his baby, but a woman was standing next to him holding the baby and he was playing with it. He looked like a proud papa.

Used to like Beck alot,

my favorites-

from Mellow Gold and EPs

"Beercan" "Fuckin With My Head" "Fume"

from Odelay

"Hotwax"

from Stereopathetic

"Rowboat" "Thunder Peel" "Putting It Down" "Ozzy"

from Midnight and Seachange

"Sexx Laws" "Guess I'm Doing Fine"

Last year I found my old One Foot In The Grave CD when I was about to go out for a late-night summer walk around the neighborhood with my headphones. I was amazed by how good it still was- there are so many excellent songs on that and its great to listen to when you're alone and drunk and/or high.

Remember kiddies Roger Joseph Manning plays a very large role in Becks sound. He was the counter part to Andy Sturmer in Jellyfish. It's no surprise to me how beck gets this airy/dreamy/70's/bubble gum/loungy sound since he had Roger take care of this. He's been quite busy.

Jeez a lot of stuff he's been credited for. I've always liked Beck for a couple years now, and I'll never forget when "Girl" came out on VH1. It was the first time I saw Beck do anything in a while. So when I saw his music video for "Girl," I guess I was astounded as to how he'd make better music now. I was listening to the same song on Napsterlinks, and I just love the beat and his vocals. WHat did you guys think of the song?

Neither Guero or Midnite Vultures grabbed me in the ways the others did- sure, there's some great tracks but only SOME.
