The first great Killers cover band? I don't know what to think of the Bravery. HPM? Thoughts? Sure, their songs are catchy and fun, but I'm growing weary of bands that sound like this. It's too much. Does it diminish a record if it sounds too much like other stuff that has come out recently?
Please tell me what to like and what to think, people, I need help. |

I think it's boring music with an attempt to make up for this banality by stupid hair and stupider clothes and the stupidest make up i have ever seen
i never liked gimicky bands

Spooky stuff Mike 2™. I just started to listen to the whole album this second 'cos I wanted to know what it was like (it's on NME.com for free).
I too am not sure what to make of them. They seem far too studied to me. Just too much effort in making themsleves look the part. That said, the singles so far have been undoubtedly excellent pop moments (Honest Mistake in particular), so I am curious what the rest of the album will be like.
I thought they gave the impression of being a bit, well, twattish, but to be fair they seem like OK guys. They appeared on a soccer show over here that regularly has bands on (even though this band don't follow the sport), and yeah they seemed OK.
They definitely do sound a little like the Killers, a little like The Cure too (which seems to be a very popular thing to do now), very 80's.
By the way, whilst I have been typing this, I have listened to two tracks off the album that I hadn't heard before. No Brakes was very good, very immediate, very poppy. Fearless was a bit boring, done before really.
I'll let you know more when I have digested it all. |

I personally am tired of hearing these "cover bands." I think it is self-defeating for these bands. I mean who wants to listen to a rip-off when you can just go to your CD collection and listen to the original. Oh, and while we are talking about the Bravery. Is it me, or does their song "Unconditional" totally sound like old U2. I couldn't believe it when I heard it the first time. Absolutely turned me off. |

The worst part of sounding like the Killers is that the Killers already sound like so many other bands from back in the day. I like "An Honest Mistake" too, Mike 1 (this is because of post count, isn't it?), but something about them just makes me uncomfortable. I've never seen pictures of them (great descriptions kitt, now I'm even more turned off). |

imagine adam ant in his prime but beefy jock boys who don't wash their boutique uber three-haircuts-in one quaffs and wear too tight trousers.
it's a horrible mess.
(but i don't rate the killers either, i've said i hear too much shed seven/underworld in them many times before)

I really want to dislike the Bravery, and in many ways, I do. I even heard Peter Hook slating them the other day, and its not really done to disagree with Hooky.
However, I very much like Honest Mistake, party on down people.

To be honest with you, this album is pretty boring on the whole. I am glad I didn't buy it now on my CD shopping spree today. Here is a picture of them for you Mike 2. Notice the guy in the middle of both pics is smoking. How cool.
By the way Speedy, you are Mike 2 'cos that is what Dean called you. |

I hate it when alt bands come out looking perfectly coiffed and madeup. It just lowers the street cred. Focus should be on the music-- not the look.

Quality, it almost makes me pine for the return of Psychobilly, or at least the Misfits.
Mike's second picture, far right: a young Matt Le Blanc?

matt le blanc circa the ketchup ad?
i was thinking more of a desperate fonz wannabe
daisy makes a valid point three times there though, all these too cool for school bands can just nob off as far as i'm concerned, i'm interested in the songs not how big their fucking hair is

I saw a video of theirs on MTV2 a little while back.
Don't remember the song. Kinda lousy, though.

But aren't you also focusing on the look, albeit in a negative manner?

The video was the first thing I saw/heard of the band, and I liked it for what that's worth. I thought the whole domino thing was nicely executed.
Congratulations to you for not having heard the Killers though, you should maybe patent your protective bubble. I actually like the Killers, but I'll admit they are literally everywhere at all times, so you've impressed me.
I would imagine if they reduced their sound to electronically processed serialist minimalism, that would interest you more?

Ok. Heard 'em now.
Phooey.

Reduced their sound?
Hand it over to William Bennett or Otomo Yoshihide for total obliteration.

Bprend, i went to see ash at the metro in chicago last week, and ash actually played before the bravery! ash has been busting their humps for years and these fuck-offs come and piss on their legacy. well, i was actually happy because i got to leave after ash.

The Bravery have been nicknamed by some of the music press here as The Bribery due to the amount of cash being thrown about by the rather over zealous record company.
The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it. |

i saw the show near the end of last month and it is dubbed as "co-headlining", for vancouver it was bravery then ash and i hate to say it but the bravery upstaged ash, i didn't really like the bravery's music but the delivery was a-one.
all that being said, i just think ash had a bad night. |

Forget the Bravery. Listen to the Rakes. Finally, a band that sounds like Maximo Park!

I'm neither mad nor keen either my friend. These bands are quite boring. I think woxy has played the Cribs a few times, but I don't recall any of their music. Good stuff?
And did you enjoy the GBV Rita sent you?
