I used to like the old Pac-Man game for Atari. I remember when it first came out, it was nearly $50 for the game!
Now you can play Pac-Man for free online.

The console games sucked. I only ever played Atari in arcades. My all time fave is Gravitar.

How about this one. Superman from 1979.
Now I love nostalgia as much as the next guy, but what a load of shite this looks. That is supposed to be Clark Kent going into the phonebooth.
Give me my PC and Call Of Duty, or my sister's Playstation 2 and Silent Hill 4 any day.

It's always funny though how people go on about how the gameplay was so much better in games then than it is now. Then they play them again and realise how shit they actually are now, and how quickly they become bored with them. Except Bomberman. that will always stand the test of time.
I played Paperboy the other day. I used to love that game, but my god was it shit. 1942 fared better but was still crap compared to todays games.

They had Pong for Atari? I just remember my bro having some sort of pong console, no other games, just pong.

Missle Commander and Pitfall were pretty good on the 2600.
In the arcade my games were Tempest, Galaga, Elevator Action, Spy Hunter, some tank game where you looked through a periscope and moved around geometric objects hunting down other tanks (sounds great, I know) |

A few favorites would have to be River Raid, M*A*S*H*, Tutenkamen (when I was a kid, I pronounced it "too tank em")...
I guess I just wasn't made for these times. |

I loved Asteroids, Xevious and Jr. Pac Man on my Atari 7800. Homer, did you see Look Around You computer special last night, with great games like Holiday and Horse Kicking.

Sorry Homer, I said between 11pm and 12am because I could'nt remember exactly when it was on, when it's actually on at 11.30pm. I thought you'd check it on Ceefax . The Holiday game was great, you get two detinations in England(Bogner Regis(sp)? is one anyway) and one in Spain, with a box of Spanish sand to make it even more authentic, the graphics actually looked like Ceefax come to think of it.

Ha ha, that reminds me of a school trip when I was about twelve or thirteen to Hungry where they had Rampage in a swimming pool lobby and I was fasinated by a local kid who had a coin tied to a piece of string. He actually did that trick like they do in cartoons where he kept pulling out the string really quickly and getting free games. I was really jealous of him.

'sall right GD...prob are too young! the atari was one of the first "console" games to hit the market--cheap (relatively) and widely disseminated.
goto www.atari.org for more than you EVER wanted to know!
you can play some of the early atari games here: www.80smusiclyrics.com/games.shtml#null" target="_blank">http://www.80smusiclyrics.com/games.shtml#null
as a player, you had either a simple joystick with ONE red button or a paddle with ONE red button. it was fun! |

Tobafett... I think you posted that link to the games on 80smusiclyrics before. That site rocks!
Floop I would have to say Pitfall too. That was one of the first games I can think of with more than one scene... and the gaphics were so hi tech when they came out. |

i never had Pitfall for my atari and since it was made by activision, i thought it would only work on those systems--at least that's what the punk of a neighbor i had told me...next time i see him, i'm knockin' him out. bugger!
[edit] sorry if I keep pushing that site, Daisy--I really DON'T have a contract with them or anything!...I keep finding that site and wasting spending lotsa time there... |

I also definitely had Pitfall on Atati. I also had an Activision hockey game, which I remember being good because it had maybe players 3 per team instead of the basketball games with one humongous player per team.
I never a had Coleco console, but I did have handheld Coleco football game. You had to navigate the little dot between the dots and I think you could even throw the ball. I loved that game, which is kind of sad because it's pitful compared to today's games. |

I still have one of those Binatone consoles. You know the orange ones where you could play tennis, or squash, or football (soccer). The graphics were the most basic ever. With the tennis for example, your player was just a line on each side and a small square that used to be the ball. You used to turn the dial on your controller to line your player up with the ball to let it bounce off. Bloody adictive though, but then 2 player games often are.
Here's the fella.
