I don't really like them but they're ok (so what's the point, I don't know): Fountains of Wayne. |

No one has mentioned Ben Folds yet. The Fastbacks also deserve a mention.

Surfer, what did you think of Suspended Animation? The first three releases are musical gospel to me but I'm still having trouble getting into this one. It is just so fucking aggro, I had the first one for a while before it started to click. I wondering if this one ever will! |

Oh it clicks - it clicks really well. I think what did it for me is seeing some of it live. OOH the love for the craziness was big at that one. I found it really jarring to start with but now it's a first thing in the morning special in that you go through so many ranges with it - the tracks are so quick, tight and complex. Directors Cut was my first Fantomas album and I also had that almost 3 months till I got it. Wasn't till I listened to it at night driving along a deserted road with a good friend that I understood it.
04/30/05 Wednesday is my current obsession.

Your right, seeing it live and in the context of their other material it made really interesting. As far as the individual album though, I'll have to keep at it. I think what I really love about'em as a band are their sudden shifts from blitzkrieg riffage to the dark ambient lulls and there's not a lot of that on SA. |
