Ready for some conspiracy theory?
I had no idea HST was doing research for a story on 9/11:

www.infowars.com/articles/ps/hunter_s_thompson_suicided_for_911_story.htm

The Globe and Mail
"Alexander Pope in a prose convertible"
By PAUL WILLIAM ROBERTS
Saturday, February 26, 2005, Page F9

Hunter telephoned me on Feb. 19, the night before his death. He sounded scared. It wasn't always easy to understand what he said, particularly over the phone, he mumbled, yet when there was something he really wanted you to understand, you did. He'd been working on a story about the World Trade Center attacks and had stumbled across what he felt was hard evidence showing the towers had been brought down not by the airplanes that flew into them but by explosive charges set off in their foundations. Now he thought someone was out to stop him publishing it: "They're gonna make it look like suicide," he said. "I know how these bastards think . . ."

Hunter S. Thompson ... was indeed working on such a story.

Now check out this February 25 Associated Press story about Thompson's death. Sounds a lot like a professional hit with a silencer:

"I was on the phone with him, he set the receiver down and he did it. I heard the clicking of the gun," Anita Thompson told the Aspen Daily News in Friday's editions.

She said her husband had asked her to come home from a health club so they could work on his weekly ESPN column...

Thompson said she heard a loud, muffled noise, but didn't know what had happened. "I was waiting for him to get back on the phone," she said. (Her account to Rocky Mountain News reporter Jeff Kass is slightly different: "I did not hear any bang," she told Kass. She added that Thompson's son, who was in the house at the time, believed that a book had fallen when he heard the shot, according to Kass' report.)

Mack White sums up the questions well:
Thompson's family says he was not depressed, nor was he in enough to pain to kill himself. In fact, by all reports, he was quite happy. He was talking on the phone to his wife, getting ready to work on his column, when he decided it would be wise to kill himself, so that he could go out (we are told) while "still at the top of his form," even though this would mean not finishing his column or his expose on 9/11 (potentially the most important thing he would ever write) (?)...

RELATED: Hunter S. Thompson Suicide Story Changes

This account says Thompson killed himself while sitting in a chair on his typewriter and yet the original account tells us that Thompson shot himself while talking to his wife on the phone in the kitchen. Why has the story changed andwhat is the significance of the word typed on the paper in light of the fact that Thompson said he would be 'suicided' before being able to release a major story on explosives bringing down the twin towers?

There's always a conspiracy theory surrouding a celebrity death. This one was pretty quick.

Usually, yes, and as soon as HST was dead the rumors started flying. But I hope the least you could do is read it and respond to it. Obviously it deserves a critical mind, it is a conspiracy theory after all.

It's no fun going through the trouble of making such a detailed post and having it waved off without consideration. <sniff sniff>
If you're not interested, then that's cool, but someone else might be.

Don't know if you guys ever checked out ESPN's Page 2. Here is Hunters last article for ESPN. Some of his articles were pretty funny if you check out the archives:

I did read it, it is interesting, I was merely commenting on the fact that these theories always come out, but this one has been particularly quick.

Whoa darlin, I was being melodramatic, for funniness (I'm just not funny I guess). I guess I did misinterpret your post, but I think honestly so, but I wasn't at all offended...you don't think I really have a tinfoil hat and I'm crying in the corner?

Well, ok, maybe the hat, but...

Sorry if I offended you, it wasn't intended.

Dear lord NO! Surfer, don't say such things.

The longer you leave it on, the warmer your brain gets. Makes you think better, and you can see things you couldn't see before. Like all those bats, and the little grey people....

It's OK, I was just shocked.

Like I said, this is an interesting conspiracy theory, more interesting than most, I just find that when I discuss them with people, they get all "Bullshit, he killed himself, blah blah blah" and "That's just fans wanting to believe that they were important enough for someone to kill them, and they don't want to believe that they took their own life 'cos then that would suggest that those precious fans didn't mean enough blah blah blah". I was a little worried that these theories would be shot down in flames, but I don't think we are in a position to do that nor to say for sure that he was murdered. I just hope it's a fair discussion this time 'cos I know they haven't always been in the past.

You can probably tell that I have had a few of these discussions.

To be fair though, there is a side of me that feels guilty sometimes for looking into these theories. A side that says perhaps we should all just let them rest in peace. But I think we all strive for the truth (I know I do particularly) and it's important to find out the truth if we seriously believe there is a miscarriage of justice.

I still think that Kurt's death is highly suspicious, despite his problems. This one too looks odd to me, as unpredictable as Hunter was.

Howdy folks! It's time for more Gonzo Conspiracy Corner!

The police report, which states that HST was found sitting, head leaning forward on chest, a gun on the floor by his right foot, and his hands laying in his lap.

There was also a handgun case partially covering the gun.
One spent shell casing, one magazine, one slug (in stove behind HST), but no cartridge left in the chamber of the Smith and Wesson .45 caliber.

Page 4 - "Both his hands were in his lap."

2 things here: the placement of the hands, and the second is something about the gun. Anyone here know firearms?

from my inbox this morning:

"In August, Hunter S Thompson's ashes will be blasted from a cannon mounted inside a 53 foot high sculpture of his Gonzo Fist emblem.

But even in death, Hunter is causing trouble. Conspiracy theorists claim he was assassinated because he was about to blow the lid on a White House child sex porn ring with links back to the Franklin Cover-Up case, (which uncovered 15 year old callboys staying at Bush Snr's White House).

Jeff Gannon, A White House journalist, was recently unmasked as a male escort entrepreneur called James Guckert, but crazy conspiracists reckon he is really Johnny Gosch, a kid taken by a paedophile ring in Des Moines in the 80s. One of the other victims of the ring, Paul Bonacci, testified that he helped kidnap Gosch to
participate in a paedo orgy at the Bohemian Grove club... an event he claimed was secretly filmed by Hunter Thompson.

(FYI: The Bohemian Grove is a club attended by establishment figures like George W Bush, where
everyone wears robes and makes sacrifices to a Great Owl.)"
