OK, I have an idea, let's see if it works. I guess it's the bastard cousin of the Compilation CD Swap, only this won't cost you money.
The idea is that you have to find a new band/musical artist for a fellow forum member. The band doesn't have to be new as such, just new to the forum member. You can discover them anyway you like but it would be a good idea to make sure they have songs readily available on the internet, unless you want to provide them with a CD.
I will do a random draw, with all the names of the forum members who want to participate. Whoever you are paired up with, you will find a band/artist for them, and they for you.
Now this will require a degree of honesty, if they contact you with a suggestion then you have to be honest with them. If you hate it, tell them, they will have to try again.
I propose a closing date for entries of 31st March. That gives everyone a good chance to see this. The draw will then be made and I will post the results here. Everyone will then have 1 month to find their partner a musical match. The results of this will also be posted here.
I suggest contact between the pairs should be kept to email where possible, except for anything you feel you need to share with the rest of the forum. You may want to ask your match for certain criterea that you may want to meet, such as what type of music they generally like or are looking for new music in.
I would suggest that a match is officially made when your partner agrees to it being their match (ie, they really like it. I don't think thinking it's OK is good enough).
Any questions, please post them below.
OK, who's in?

Good man Brian. I am a bit worried that it sounds more complicated than it is. It really isn't though. I think it should be good fun, and if all goes well, we will all get a new band/artist to love and get to know another forum member a little better.

It's your partner that would have to mail the CD really, you would be fine to just send your partner a link to the music, so they can downlaod it themselves. That is what I assume everyone will do anyway. The only problem with mailing CD's is if you don't really like it. It could get costly for your partner. Don't forget the match is only made when your partner finds you something that you end up really liking. It has to impress you enough to want more.
How long would a 4 minute song take for you to download?

Sounds interesting, but I don't know that I really like enough bands, so I think I'll have to pass.

I pity the poor person you pair me up with Mike. I have my suspicions I'm going to be relentless with this one.

Welcome everyone.
Nathan, you know I kind of had the idea of people discovering the band/artist themselves too, before passing it on to their partner. I mean you can use bands/artists that you already love yourself, but I think it get's more interesting and worthwhile if you discover something new yourself (other than what your partner finds you), or at least try first. It's your call, but I just don't want you to be put off by the fact that you don't currently know many bands now. It'd be great to have you aboard.
Oh and Marsist, I have thought about your predicament whilst at my grandma's (grandmas provide a calming influence), and I think that your partner could possibly send you a disc with, let's say, three songs by about six different artists (assuming you get about 18 songs on a CD on average), so that there is a good chance of you really liking one of them. Obviously your partner would have to willing to do this 'cos it may still run past one disc (you may never like one of that they suggest).

I sent Nicole a CD of Groop Dogdrill. I don't know if that counts. I don't want to play anyway, it sounds too complicated.

Great idea, Mike. Count me in, and I would prefer the non-download sub-group as well if possible. I don't have the patience for dial-up download.

OK this is better, shine, super and marsist can be put in a seperate group. We will need that group to end up an even number in the end, but there is plenty of time left yet.
Those of you that are already in may want to start looking now. I know you don't know who you are paired with yet, but it can do no harm to start looking anyway. Just because someone currently prefers one type of music over another, doesn't mean they can't be converted.
Just a thought.

Uh, this sounds fun, but I'm not sure I'd be up to it. I don't really know that many bands and I only have the old dial-up connection. What if you don't manage to find anything? Sanctions? And I'd feel bad form my partner for pulling the short straw... |

Welcome aboard APl.
Well ElevatorLady, you could join the CD sub-division if you like. you don't have to know many bands either, 'cos I think it's even better if you discover someone new yourself, then recommend them to your partner. It's your call, but it would be great to have you aboard too.
