Are there any fans here of this amazingly funny and twisted play, and the band that does the music for it?
I've wanted to mention them for a while, but now I have a very good excuse. They are doing presales now for the Little Schubert opening night show on Feb 22 in NYC. I won't be able to go, we'll be in Louisville for Slint, but if anyone is curious I highly recommend it. It's one of the best experiences I've ever had.

It's based on some old German children's stories written by a psychiatrist for his own children, explaining what horrible fates could meet them if they misbehave, like any good Victorian children's story should. It's rather an adult approach, and with very dark humor.

| I found out about this show on Playbill.com and was intrigued by the concept. Living in a small town in west Texas does not afford me the opportunity to run to my local music store and purchase new cast recordings, so I hopped on ebay and found a copy of the album. Imagine my surprise when it arrived in the mail and I opened it up to discover that it had been signed by the band! What a thrill! This whole show is any amazing idea and I hope that it continues to be well-received in NYC. I may be going to New York this summer and I pray that it is still playing at that time. |

Glad to find another fan, texas-actor. And welcome to the forum!
We saw the original cast in Chicago in I think it was 2001? We got our cd signed by the Lillies after the show, and they were just as oddly compelling in real life. I was in a sort of fugue the rest of the night and for several days after the show. The atmosphere the play creates is magical. It actually made me want to get involved in the theater (set design etc).
I too hope they keep it up, and that you eventually get to see it. I never like "musicals", but this was extremely witty, dark and twisted, and a total anachronism.
By the way, if you enjoyed that, the Tiger Lillies also did a tribute cd to Edward Gorey, with whom they collaborated a few months before his sad departure. It's called "The Gorey End", and is quite a treat for fans of either entity. |
