I've been to Tam O' Shanter probably five times. Never had a sammich there, though. They are known for their prime rib, which isn't really my thing. I believe they are owned by Lawry's. I dig the original Disney drawing in the lobby. Apparently Walt was a regular back in the day.

When in need of a good steak, I usually go to Taylor's. There's one in La Canada and one in LA at 8th/Normandie. I like the LA location better...the food's the same and it's less crowded. You can stuff your pie-hole full of good meat for about $20.

i've only been to Tam O' Shanter for lunch. and they have this guy there who's been there for like 20 years apparently. fresh roast beef, shredded pork, turkey.. it's FUCKing amazing. the best part is watching him put it together. after cutting up your juicy meat selection he'll dip the bun in the juices from the cutting board and say "de juice is the best part" (heavy mexican accent),. it's like a religious experience.

In-n-Out...best fast food ever. Julia Child and me said so so there.

I didn't get out and about when I was in Los AnGeles last week...I did try the weird 60s rest. at LAX, the Encounter...pricey but cool views (human and aeroplane).

I'm annoyed with myself for not eating at more restaurants while I was in LA - the array is quite astounding.

The one place that I ate at daily was Juliano's Raw, which I thought was some of the most interesting and suprisingly tasty food I've ever eaten.

I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A

A proposition for debate: when visiting LA for a few days, eating anywhere but a Mexican or Thai restaurant is a wasted opportunity

i wouldn't agree with that argument because LA has more to offer than Thai and Mexican. we got it all baby.

no, all i'm sayin' is, people always talk about NY as being the restaurant mecca of the US, but, well, they're wrong.

Sure, but if you were in LA for 2 lunches and 2 dinners, shouldn't at least 2 of those meals be Mexican?

ok, well that's different. you said a few days.

2 lunches and 2 dinners? i think i'd agree. 2 should be Mexican. though, if you were one of those (crazy) people who isn't that into Mexican, you could find every and any thing else you might be looking for.

i would say at least one of those meals should be sushi

Homeland Defense is suppose to keep the crazy people out.

Sure, 1 meal can be Asian (sushi, Thai, Indian, dim sum)

I was avoiding sushi because I think you might lose that one to the western Canadians. I think Vancouver might beat LA for sushi.
