Beer saves man's life
Slovak man frees himself from avalanche by urinating on snow
Jan 31, 2005 - A Slovak man trapped in his car under an avalanche freed himself by drinking about eight gallons of beer and urinating on the snow to melt it. Rescue teams found Richard Kral drunk and staggering along a mountain path four days after his Audi car was buried in the Slovak Tatra mountains.
He told them that after the avalanche, he opened his car window and tried to dig his way out. As he dug with his hands, he realized the snow would fill his car before he managed to break through.
He said that he contemplated this problem by opening one of 60 half-liter bottles of beer he had in the car because he was going on holiday. It was then that he realized he could urinate on the snow and it would melt.
"I was scooping the snow from above me and packing it down below the window, and then I peed on it to melt it," he said. "It was hard and now my kidneys and liver hurt. But I'm glad the beer I took on holiday turned out to be useful and I managed to get out of there."
Parts of Europe were hit last week by the heaviest snowfalls in more than 60 years, with some places registering more than ten feet of snow in 24 hours.

i stole a bottle of red wine from my parent's tonight after drinking 6 beers... I have a real problem with the booze... I wish I had the willpower of KSR... I don't....
I hope Betty is fairing better than I am, I'm still using...

Hehe, what a cool story. I don't know if I would have thought of that. Probably would actually, there's no point in letting all that beer go to waste. Mind you, I'm suprised he wasn't just pissing where he sat after drinking so much.
Sorry to hear that the rehab is not working so far Andy, hang on in there.

You're fighting a much bigger beast than I am, LBF.
You've got those scripts and of course there are the reasons why the scripts were prescribed.
Plus, you've probly got friends to go out and do stuff with.
I have a 7 year old son.
I was denying it, but my social life is essentially over.
I'm facing that now.
No biggie.
You'll be alright, man.
Just try not to hurt yourself...because you know - you're only hurting yourself when you hurt yourself. |

KSR, I live in the middle of nowhere, I have no friends, and there is nowhere to go out or do anything... I got used to that pretty easily...
I was being pretty good for awhile, moderation has never been a strong point for me, rehab never works for me, and I am mental...
60 gallons of beer...
It will all work itself out eventually, I can at least enjoy it while it lasts...

Couldn't he have just poured the beer to melt the snow? You know, and then not dehydrated himself and potentially lost his wits, not to mention killing his liver. It almost seems made up.

I thought that Dean but like darwin said, the urine would be a lot warmer and it would also preject itself a greater distance, and in any direction he desired ('cos he would need to go up a little too). The beer would end up pouring back onto his hand.

i doubt he killed his liver any more than when someone goes out and does some heavy drinking..

it's winter floop, it takes like a week for $4 worth of ice to melt.
