I would like you to draw attention to this message. (you'd better)

All (or most) of you were fans of the Pixies before or after the first spilt. You were moved by this truely EFFECTIVE contemporary music.

You grew up or old following Frank Black's career with real affection and faith in his work.

Thank to him you were given keys that would open enjoyable doors to apppreciate the holy roots of rock'n roll and more. (for that I can only thank you Mr Black, as I always did when I met you, this is YOUR JOB and you DID it well).

In a way you/we were INFLUENCED, in the philisophical meaning of the term.

NOW. The Pixies are back together, their cult status is not only confirmed in a wider way but it is still growing. It is ALIVE.

We can "ā juste titre" think that it is FAIR. We hold and waved the flag for many years and we, fans are rewarded for that.

Today Frank Black and the Pixies get what they DESERVE.HIM and THEM in the light is a bit of us (our youth?) in the light.

IT is CULTURAL.

All that above is FACTUAL

NOW
Do U feel like your concrete life followed the same constructive, artistic and "IDEAL" path ??

Do U feel like your ideal life followed the same "CONCRETE" path ??

Where have you drawn the line under this influence?
What is your LIFE?
What do you think of it?

DO some of you live on MARS ?
Are U forever away on holiday ?
Do some still can't make it ?

Do you feel you're keep on starting to loose it?

Is your life a long black letter day?

Has YOUR BAND changed its name again ???

I am hwolsky the Court Jester also known as Peter Wachsmann being SYRIUS for a while.

I hope you'll be receptive. I want to understand in order to KNOW what is going on in your/our lifes because "I want to live" and I had a dream... that this forum would be more than a chat... collecting words, avoiding thoughts.

Mostly I am straight.

Thank You.

Don't forget to bring a towel !!

Well your questions are pretty vague at times. Your English is a lot better than my French, but I think you are asking a lot to demand answers to questions that are not very clear.

I am sure people are happy to talk to you (I know I am), but please make it clear what you are asking.

They influenced my own songwriting and other bands that I now listen to. They changed the idea I was given of what you had to be to be in a rock band. They changed the idea I was given of what rock bands could to sound like, of how rock songs were written. They changed the idea I was given of how you should play your guitar. They changed the idea I was given of how you write lyrics.

They changed a lot. More than any other for me.

relax, baby - it's bigger than that !

'cause good old frank tought me not to take things too seriously. honestly, for me that's the essence of his songwriting. if you can laugh on yourself, than you like his songs. that's what i get out of his work: relax, don't be afraid what others could think about you, and then everything will be possible.

Thanks for your advice, you see communication could be possible. I would just try to transcend the levels.

Overall in this forum, it feels like a lot of people spent a lot of time in front of their computer, non-communicating... Besides infos or news they are not involved into, there is very little occasion to speak, express our feelings, to go DEEPER... We would rather create LINKS to each-others... It would be interesting for both us and our Black Man.

I think of a church were everyone meet regularly, wearing a blank (frank) mask with very little or vain originality, where everyone SEEM to share a same ideal, collecting things, listening and singing SONGS together, waving their arm toward the same idol, without being or daring to be themselves and in the end very suspicious.
A Catholic Church... of course.

To be fair, people are more exporessive around the time of Frank releases and tours. It's just s bit quiet at the moment. If you want general expression then pop over to 'General Chat'.

The Pixies taught me about anger can be a creative force.

The Old Testament God of David and Samson ("Dead," "Gouge Away") was angry. Shiva (who I see in "The Sad Punk") is essentially angry. Anger -- or destructive impulse, demiurge, or whatever you want to call that darkness in all of us -- is a powerful tool that we can use creatively or destructively.

I attended maybe 500 sermons as a child, but I never heard the wrath of God until I heard Frank scream. It's like something out of Revelations.

This might sound super wiggy to some of you, but I was raised with a lot of Old Testament imagery and doctrine that I sort of rejected because it was ominous, and negative and didn't speak to me. Yet it was firmly lodged in my consciousness. Somehow, Frank's music provided a channel for that baggage or whatever to express itself in a meaningful and positive way. It was like lancing a boil. I felt freed and validated once I heard it.

So, I don't want to overemphasis or overread the meanings of the Pixies music. But art is what you see in it, and that's one of the things I saw that provided tangible results in my life. Frank was raised a certain way (his California childhood years) that was similar to the way I was raised in my tiny little Midwestern town, and so he spoke a specific dialect of which I could understand and to which I could relate. He knew the code words.

Later songs like "California Bound" hit the same place. Like I escaped from something (fundamentalist Christianity) that I can look back on with a mixture of affection and firm refutation.

If "Surfer" and "Doolittle" helped stir up, anger, and eventually exorcise some of my demons, "Trompe le Monde" and "Frank Black" were sort of a soundtrack when I was trying to fill the places where the demons had lived. If you read Sartre's "Nausea," you're left with that existentialist question of "I've dumped my former construction of reality, now what?" Well, those latter two albums are sort of small answers to that question -- you get a life, you follow your bliss, you enjoy your freedom and you appreciate what is around.

How's that, hWolsky?

The more I listened to new Catholics, the more I missed the old days of Pixies.
The more I go to work, the more I want to be having fun.

Now I have the Pixies, the more I miss period Black.
And I'm still going to work.

Triakel, aligato gasaimasu...

I totally agree with you about Come on Surfer,Doolittle / Bossa,Trompe. I talked a bit about that in the topic "Why do you like Frank Black"

As a french person I can't help struggling with this "non-natural, then cultural" existentialism who became a mixture and symbol of a big part of the French litterature. I can't say I agree or not, as you run to escape the devil (or his sweetest angels) you do not wonder if you agree with your reactions or not, I guess. Especialy when you were taught that the devil can hurt. I sound vain and pretencious for here I am merely an articulation of words and words are pretencious (god is, then). I sound confused because confusion (is sex) is part of the question mark. I would love to be your mirror, for I would love to love a mirror that would not reflect myself.

...Well I forgot what I wanted to say, anyway I did like your answer that sounds like a free question...

By the way, Mister Conspiracy, I indeed dig (very deeply) Pere Ubu. What about You?

Sorry my replies a little weak.

I can get deep with Pixies and frank, honest. So much to say I lose the words. I could write a book that would last one hundred years filled with my thoughts about every song, lyric and philosophy.

Love what you're trying to do with this thread and especially this...

And you're the one who pointed me to Ubu sometime late last year.

hWolsky, your mind is beautifully twisted. I enjoy your insights. You're strident, but you always have a point.

Yes, the music exorcised the "sweetest angels" as well as the demons (or perhaps they were the same). And yes, my early perception of the world was molded as a duality ("the devil can hurt," as I understand your meaning). It's the Judeo-Christian tradition, y'all.

As for "not wondering if I agree with my reactions or not (paraphrase)" I am not sure that I divine your meaning. Are you asking if I have questioned the "results" of the "exorcism?" Or if my reaction was as "wrong" as the situation against which I reacted?

... Maybe?

Certainly, I'm in post-Sartre, post-existentialist kind of place. Those philosophers (and an old feller named Lao-tze) wiped clean the blackboard -- to the point where I rejected all assumptions. It was freaky for a while (I'm thinking of the moment in "Nausea" where the Sartre character looks at his old lover and her travel souvenirs as futile nonsense, grasping at sand). But the panic passed, and for years I have been carefully choosing which ideas can play in my playground. It is fun to think and live.

Wakarimasuka?
