Something funny happened to me, I stoped about half a year ago doing exercise, and I've lost already 8Kg...I don't know why, but I don't mind at all!

Ive never been obseesed with my weight - ive seen what its done to other people, but in the past year, partuclarly the last 5 months or so, i am the biggest, and generally unhealthist i have ever been...I feel like crap.
Im going on a get fit routine next month. Ive never really done diets or anything of the sort - but ig gotta do this now before it gets out of hand. Basically, im cutting out the crap i eat at lunch (er..chips!), im completely cutting out fizzy drinks (except when mixed with alcohol)- known to be one of the main causes of obesity, Im slowly cutting down and giving up smoking, And im going to drink more whiskey and coke / wine, rather than the ridiculous amount of beer. Exercise wise, im going to do 30 mins on a rowing machine, 30 minutes on exercise bike each night, as well as a 45 minute - 1 hour walk every morning/night. When it gets warmer, im gonna get up at 6 and go jogging.
Right now my frame of mind is dire. I feel sluggish, and tempermental. I know this is down to my diet. Im looking forward to eating more fruit and salad! Its my last day today of junk food. It all starts tomorrow. My boyfriend is doing it all with me too, which i think will help, ahving someone motivate you.
I cant imagine cutting alcohol out completely...crazy idea simon. just dont drink beer. As much

To be fair, i never suggested cutting out all alcohol. Lets not go nuts here. But good on you Mel, I hope you can be disciplined with the exercise - thats my biggest problem. I'm starting with getting off the tube a stop early and working up from there.

i wasn't insinuating anything about you cheeze gut. i mean, cheeseman.
just giving my opinion that, when it comes to weight loss, i think people focus too much on diet, and neglect exercise.
in general.

Very kind of you to say so Mel - consider yourself offered a place
I'm not hugely overweight, but I reckon its probably a good idea to get down out of the 'overweight' bracket when you calculate your BMI. Also, I'm not fit at all, I imagine all this could catch up with me later so it'd be easier to sort it out now.

Yeah, im in the same thinking. They say its easier when youre younger to do all this stuff, so i thought i may as well try it at least once while im still young.
And i hope that place is for the music managment course mister!

quote: Give up eating altogether. That will cut your weight right there. Keep drinking as normal. I'm sure you can find some cool breakfast shakes to get you through the day...because that would not really be eating then, would it? That would still be following the "all-drinking plan" I have just proposed.
So you're on the Drinking Man's Diet, like Allan Sherman?

You don't need to give anything up. Two key things to remember:
1) portion control (moderation in all things except exercise...you have to attack your workouts). 2) when you drink, skip the beer (which is like liquid loaves of bread) and drink a stiff drink or wine on a near-empty stomach.

I have to agree with floop, it's unbelievable the amount of people who tell me they want to lose weight, but don't want to exercise. I can't believe how some people just don't realise how important it is. We were not made to sit on our arses.

I've got worse I'm afraid. I don't really drink lots all in one go, but its more regular now. I think cutting out beer would be a reasonably significant factor.

Ah. Yes. That probably makes more sense.
Still a secret.
A question: can men get away with ordering wine in a pub now?

Depends what you mean by 'get away with'. If you mean does it look a bit 'girly' then who cares?
If that really bothers you then go for the spirit option I guess.

Metrosexual? Do I need to groom more? I still think I'd feel kind of funny ordering wine in a pub (neanderthal that I am), but I'm sure it can be overcome. Jack and coke will do me fine for now though I guess (mmm, sugary fats)

Of course it can be overcome!
If it bothers you that much you could
a) convince someone sharing a bottle would be cheaper than buying a couple of glasses of wine (which it is) b) send a girl c) order for a few people at a time making sure there is at least one pint in there so you can make out the spirit and tonic/ wine is for someone else.
the ex was a big fan of the G&T and would order his own and he was a proper northen bloke and everything. I would have thought in London of all places it would be a less self conscious act, what with it being so cosmopolitan and everything...

Heheh, yeah I know, unreconstructed geezer and everything... Actually, I do like the odd G&T, so that may work.
But still: it'll be summer soon, and I'll want beer! I... must... be...strong...

My little bro always drinks wine. And actually the chicks seem to dig it.
I think it might be because its so opposite to what he appears to be. He'll play a gig and he plays drums like a madman and then he'll sit down with a glass of wine and they flock I tell you, flock.

There may be something in that Carolyn, I quite liked the fact that the ex liked what he liked and didn't much care what he was supposed to like. He'd order a pint and a G&T at the bar, they'd pour the pint first and hand it to him, and he would without blinking hand it straight to me, never even noticed the phased look on the barman, didn't care!
aaah I might have to go make a phone call now... (weak so weak)
