I wish I could communicate better- especially when it comes to relationships. (which, in turn, makes me bad at relationships) I wish I was better at relationships. bleh. |

Women never approach me. I was never approached by a woman...well, I can remember one time at the comedy show.. which leads me to think I'm unattractive.
I guess I just wasn't made for these times. |

generally women don't approach men. there are exceptions, but it's just not the norm. don't take it personally. you just have to bite the bullet and put yourself out there. not always easy, but true.
the great thing about getting older (like this old man) is you start to care less and less about fear of rejection. it's still there, but when i was in my early 20's i couldn't talk to girls to save my life.
thank god for beer

I always get nervous going up to talk to women because it's as if I set this goal that I've got to win her over or something. Now I just try to go up and talk to her just for the fun of talking to her and finding out something fun, funny or interesting about her. Kind of feels like it takes the pressure off me a little.
One of the things I would change about myself is needing 8 hours of sleep. Makes me sick when I talk to people that only need 4 hours of sleep and feel great. 4 hours for me and I slip into adrenaline fueled flame out and then crash into a nodding off stupor or shell shocked jumpiness.

No, the only proper job I have is I teach 10 hours a week from 5-7pm then play with band from 10-1am and I spend the rest of the time writing, letters to friends, a column I´m doing for a small magazine, novel, and I read short stories people´ve submitted to a lit magazine here, 5 a week, and tell the editor yes no yes yes maybe. I´ve got all morning to loaf around secondhand bookshops and drink coffee.

That sounds good... If you don't mind me asking, is it easy to get by, teaching a couple of hours a day? I'm curious 'cos I used to do something similar but it didn't pay enough... No worries if you'd rather not answer- I appreciate I'm being a tad intrusive. |

The couple hours a day is enough because I get paid pretty well so I´d rather have loads of free time which I can use to work on stories and songs for when school´s out in May. I felt more of a squeeze living in Ireland so I thought twas high time Ï left for a decade or two. Mike, come to the continent. The UK and Ireland are dark shitholes.

Ok, it makes sense. It's funny because I left Italy to go and live in the UK, probably for the same reasons as you.
I used to teach Italian in London, but for one reason or another it wasn't enough to get by...
I guess it's due to the fact English language is much more indipensable than Italian. |

this worked with me...when i was younger, i was very cynical. i'm still very misanthropic (maybe an echo of listening too much to the "animals" record ;-) ), but nowadays i'm more optimistic about life. in earlier times, i looked at all other people around me as fools and stupid creeps. i still have a negative view on mankind in general, but when i meet somebody i don't automatically think "he/she is an idiot". i did this before.
what made me change ? some may laugh at me, but i spent some weeks in the US and met new people. i'm not saying that everybody over there is so wonderful and nice, but compared to Europe there is an overall optimistic view on life, i think. i was lucky enough to absorb a bit of that.
what would i change now ? being more consistent in my decisions, i guess. being more brave in everyday situations.

2Reeelers, the people you encountered were CLUELESS.
That 'happiness' is the direct result of the Mandatory American Lobotomy that is television.
They weren't nice. They were zombies.
If I could change something...
Physically, I'd change my nose and teeth...and I'd be a little taller.
Inside, I'd revamp that whole shebang. Complete personality transplant. I guess I'd like to be one of those clueless, lobotomized people. Wouldn't everyone? I mean, if they got to you in your sleep and you woke up and the world was suddenly an endless playground? Wouldn't that be nice?
Now, be good and take your pills.

How's this Carolynanna, I won't embrace the (*cough*) "goodness" that is the inferior maple syrup but I was, indeed, thinking Seinfeld. Can I still get citizenship? I'm willing to relocate despite the NHL strike.
