This has probably been asked centuries ago,and I know it sounds a bit naff, but I have to ask-are there any FB fans out there who actually HATE The Pixies? (Not that I do, by any means.) I'm sure there are some forum members who ar'nt particularly interested in them. And er, that's it.
P.S If this gets one reply, however negative, then I'll be happy! |

Nobody hates the Pixies. Am I right?
I have, my thrill at the reunion tour notwithstanding, I have felt a little, how do I say it, a little burned out on early Pixies songs and do wish the Catholics would get back together. But hate the Pixies, no I don't know of anybody who does.
Sorry if I am going off topic here.
I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank |

To Hate the Pixies? Is that possible? Who formed the Pixies, wasn't Frank Black?

It was a guy called Black Francis, I guess.
I'm pretty sure nobody hates the Pixies on this site.

I hated 'em when they broke up because I loved Trompe le Monde and was excited by what the future held. Just had to wait a little while, then FB made it all better. |

By hate do you mean "burned out" on them?
I was a fan during the Pixies original incarnation, and was able to see them back in the early nineties---my first concert!---before all this hooplah. Now that the second coming has occured and they have been lavished the superstardom they so richly deserve, things are a little different, sure. Never once have I felt that stab of indignation that many of the "old-time" fans do, however: jeez, who are these Johnny Come Lately fans? What right do they have to be here?
No, I figure they just got around to liking what should have been celebrated to this degree the first time around. Shows that we had the good taste to be a step ahead of the game a decade ago, right?
Also, I hope the Pixies stick around, as a kind of side project for the group. People love them, and the band seem to be having a good time. Why not stay around for a while? They finally made the scratch they deserved after all these years, which will allow the breathing space and freedom they didn't have the first time around---the lack of which stifled version one, IMHO.

hate? no. aside from the bossanova album and a few track off trompe le monde/doolittle i can take it or leave it, though. loved it in middle/highschool, rocked it in non stop rotation for many many years.
i love FB's solo work so much more, though. TOTY was such a fresh breath of air at a time when grunge was on its last cheap fix and right before radio-friendly-"techno" was about to explode in the US. the catholics started off a little rough for me, but won me over with Pistollero...combined as a cohesive unit...separating frank's pre/post catholics work...making some personal mix CDs for the car...they get a TON more play for me these days than any of the pixies stuff i got and it really rocks me harder than the pixies ever did |

What does it matter? I was there during their initial run, too. But if I wasn't, and just NOW started liking PIXIES, I'm guessing I'd be wrong to do so? I guess this means I can no longer like the Beatles either 'cause I wasn't around until '71. Shit. Let's throw all our Byrds and Doors stuff in the bonfire, too. Sorry, Elvis. I can't listen to you anymore either 'cause apparently I don't deserve to. Same goes for you too, Ludwig.

First of all, I love the Pixies and I love Frank Black. But I could see how there could be someone out there who may have stumbled upon Dog in the Sand and/or Show Me Your Tears who would then listen to Surfer Rosa and just be like "What the fuck?!?!?" |

Let me refer to Venn: All Frank fank fans are a subset of Pixies fans. Therefor, all pixies fans may or may not like Frank. But all Frank fans undoubtebtly love Pixies. Next question. |

I will ask it myself:
Why are there more Breeders fans than Frank fans: |

Do you think there are really more Breeders' fans than Frank fans? That would surprise me. The only reasons I could see for that would be because they had a bigger commercial hit with "Canonball" than any FB or Pixies tunes. Also, some people might have the hots for the Deal sisters. |

Last february...and...
Went to see those silly BREEDERS in L.A. at the Troubador Feb. '04, and actually was requested by Kim and Kelly to meet them out front after the show!!! Earlier I had come to the rescue of this girl out in the back alley of the venue because she was drunk, tripped, and hurt her nose. Me and a friend helped this girl, and even told her we would drive her home after the show (because of her condition). Kim and Kelly heard about this, and sent a stage hand to get me and my friend. Well, it was a dream come true. I chatted with the Deal's for 15-20 minutes about random stuff, and it was a blast!!! Then they both hugged (group hug) me simultaneously...it was a Deal sandwich! I have a couple pics with them! Sooooo cooool!

Breeders had a better, sorry, had a relationship with you know who. That band beginning with N, frontman beginning with K. They had a mighty influence on so many who needed a point in a right direction.
And Transmarine? Nice story, but I am SO jealous. I talk to you no more. |

I'm pretty sure that's not true. I belive there are some members of this forum who were first into Frank Black before they found out about the Pixies? |

You're right ElevatorLady. I was first into FB. But had to buy Pixies-abums later of course. After seeing Pixies on Letterman-show, I think they should stop now.
