let's talk. Favorite albums? favorite songs? any stories?

My fave albums are crooked rain and wowee zowee. Lately I've been in love with the song "major leagues".

hmm, I wish I could have seen them live.

I had to listen to "Brighten the Corners" - 'Starlings of the Slipstream' after you mentioned Pavement. Another great album. Are you a Silver Jews fan also?

I love Pavement. My favorite album is probably either Brighten the Corners or Crooked Rain. I'm really also like Stephen Malk's solo stuff, and I own one Silver Jews album. I just watched Slow Century a few days ago, and it instilled in me the need to listen to Pavement.

I don't know the Silver Jews that well. I really must check them out. From what I hear American Water is really good!

or giants, as understood by frank black and referenced in "all my ghosts." it's this really bizarre verse or two that has absolutely no background as to what the hell it's talking about. interesting stuff. it's just kind of shoved between the creation account and the flood account.

it just goes to show that, even if you're not a christian, the bible is an immensely fascinating read.

I love pavement, especially brighten the corners, but slanted and crooked rain are growing on me, since I got me those fab reissues.

Never got it. Don't understand it. Sorry.

Maybe I should put more effort in, but I don't really listen to much music along those lines at the moment, so I'm guessing I still won't get into it.

Pavement were a fantastic band. Slanted and Enchanted and Crooked rain are my favourite.

Malkmus solo stuff is quite good as well but you can't beat Pavement!

American Water is a great album. I have just about all the other Silver Jews releases, but that one is a stand out recording. David Berman, lead singer for the jews, is a very good poet. In fact Malkmus was apparently shaken after helping to record American Water because he felt Terror Twilight did not compare to it (although I think Terror Twilight is fine in its own right).

I finally listened to A.W. I'm digging the songwriting too. He is a good poet. That's a funny anecdote about SM and Terror Twilight. I love that record so much though. I think it was a very suitable conclusion for pavement.

Looking forward to more listens of Silver Jews.

Berman is an incredible lyricist/poet, easily tops SM in that department. Melodically they're about on par with each other. SM is definitely more exciting and energetic when it comes to playing music, as well as the song arrangements.

I'm a huge fan of SM's lyrics, he's great with the free association, but Berman manages to be non-linear and yet still comes up with all sorts of these great little quotables about things in life that just speak volumes of truth.

I love some of Spiral Stairs songs from the Pavement days but the PSOI stuff is rather weak. He seems to have a lot of good ideas but has trouble structuring them into solid songs. It worked better when he was adding parts to SM's work. He just doesn't have enough to make it through a whole album. The first three songs on All This Sounds Gas are quite good, especially the third song. After that, there aren't many highlights.

Let 'em riot. We're Sonic-fuckin'-Death Monkey.

I got Slanted And Enchanted: Luxe And Redux a short while ago, and I have been thinking of getting the deluxe reissue of Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. Lo and behold, Wowee Zowee is getting the luxury treatment:

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/37556/Pavements_Wowee_Zowee_to_Be_Reissued#37556

Pavement's Wowee Zowee to Be Reissued

Wowee Zowee is right. Following in the footsteps of their 2002 reissue of Pavement's 1992 debut album Slanted & Enchanted and their 2004 reissue of 1994's Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, Matador will reissue Pavement's fan-favorite third studio release, 1995's Wowee Zowee.

While a tracklist, release date, and load of additional information are still in the works, a few exciting tidbits about the reissue have been revealed by the folks at Matador.

Wowee Zowee version 2.0 will include around twenty album covers by Steve Keene, a never-before-heard concert from the WZ tour, and a number of previously unreleased tracks and rarities, many of which are alternate takes. And that's all we know right now, sorry!

Yeah...I'm with you too...got the Slanted & Enchanted re-issue on my birthday in March. Haven't listened to it all that much yet. Anyone have the Crooked Rain re-issue? I'd like to know how all the extras are on that.

2005? Post diggity!

I have my red "Pavement?" shirt on at this very second, and I still like Pavement very much. I also love Malkmus' stuff, maybe even more than last year, specifically the first 2 albums- Face The Truth hasn't totally clicked with me yet.

I've got the CRCR expanded edition, it was only like 2 quid more than the normal version I bought a few years prior. To be honest, I've barely listened to the extras. The little book that came with it is cool though. Or was until I spilt cereal on it and stuck lots of pages together :(
