Anybody ever caught Frank doing an encore? I have seen him three times and the crowd was going crazy, sell out and all. And he never did an encore. Anybody been there that magical night that Frank did one?

I've only once seen him NOT do an encore so I don't know what you're talking about, to be honest. Very interesting.

The first time I went to see him, he did the last song on his setlist and this guy behind me, says to his girlfriend, "let's go, Frank don't do encores." And sure enough, he did not, ever.

I've only seen him twice, once with the Catholics and once solo, but he did encores at both shows. He has said that he'll only do one if he feels the crowd is asking for it, whereas for most performers it's a given regardless of audience reaction.

With the Pixies, they sort of had some fun with that tradition by not leaving the stage in a sort of nod to the "yeah, both you & I know that we'll be back to play an encore, so to hell with the theatrics"

Ah yes, I forgot to include the Pixies gigs - encores at both of those as well. I admire his encore stance, the true meaning behind the concept was lost long ago and we need someone to bring it back. He's a smart guy, that Frank.

fb&tc didnt do any encores when I saw them live here in the UK, at the Astoria2 they had a disco on after and they couldnt. I dont think they did any in sheffield and edinburgh when they toured here last.

It seems selfish to feel a little deflated when the band doesn't come back for an ecore. But with Frank I do, and am. selfish that is. It' like traditional, and a thing of beauty derived from 'hero' worship. So honoured to see and hear the set, but please, you've left me wanting more. I get to see you about once a year and I don't wanna go home yet. Please. One more song. Encores are the best. A chance to clap hands above heads in appreciation and show the band how much they mean to us. But I do understand the fact 'be grateful for what you receive'. |

Four Catholics shows, four encores. Four 2004 Pixies shows, four encores, with one of them being the dignified "take a bow, play a little more". |

I've seen him twice with the C's, once in Baltimore and once in DC. Encores both times. In DC he closed with Sister Isabel and I went crazy thinging I didn't have the song. I looked when I got back and there is was on the Peel Session.

Well damn! Maybe he has something against Austin. Because the Pixies did not do an encore when they played the ACL festival. What is the deal, Frank?

I've seen FB&C's 12 times, and only ONCE did he not encore. It was at the Fabulous Foothill in Long Beach, Nov. 1998. I can't recall what song they ended with (but they played Speedy Marie that night and it was awesome!), but when they were done, they whooshed off stage. The audience started chanting and stamping for an encore, and Scott B. actually poked his head out from backstage and said there would be no encore. People went ballistic. One guy actually screamed out "come back out Frank, you FAT FUCK!", which was pretty rude and off-putting...killing the crowds enthusiasm and sealing the chance of there being an encore.

5 for 5 on Pixies/FB encores.
Although, if someone can confirm that the encore the second night in Minneapolis in November WAS an encore, I'd feel much better.

I've only seen him with the C's once in Spain, and he did the encore, with the Pixies too.
So this is for when you're feeling happy again And this is for when you're feeling sad And this is for when you feel... Something

The last time Frank played solo in Dublin (Temple bar Music Centre) the encore went on forever...bloody fantastic. Every time the crowd shouted for more he oblidged until we were all exhausted.
The staff in the venue (nor the band that were due to play the nite club) weren't so amused i hope they got paid overtime

I saw the pixies last summer and they didnt do an encore but I think they were limited to time because they werre "warming up" for the red hot chilli peppers
It's [still] educational! |

Saw Pixies 6-3-05 at Wiltern Theater, L.A. 1130 PM - 1250 AM Encore - Velouria Many standing O's - last one deafening. They were into this crowd.
Band never left the stage until after the encore. As original as I have heard they are.
U Mass, Holiday Song, Vamos and River Euphrates were awesome - as were all.
Missing from set list: Brick is Red and I Bleed.
Kim curtsied near the end, smiled the entire set, smoked a couple cigs, drank the near beerand gave Joey's set list to a fan.
David was so stoked by the response.
Frank very deadpan during his vocals to great effect.
Joey was very shy, humble, dignified. The feedback and sonic guitar -one of a kind original.

Ummm....they didn't play River Euphrates, and their second song was I Bleed. The show started at 12:00 sharp and ended at 1:25 on the dot.
