Is Over the Line a national game? It's pretty big in San Diego. It's basically people hitting softballs and you get runs based on hitting the ball past various lines without the ball getting caught. Often played on the beach.

I think broomball is pretty wide spread. We played it in San Diego. Surprising how much that ice hurts when you fall with no padding. |

This topic died too early a death. How about kid's games, what did people play? Me: kick the can, capture the flag, ice cream tag, statue tag. I love capture the flag. Running in the woods, jumping over logs, crawling up to the flag. Good times. |

My favorite childhood games, while not perhaps considered niche sports, were Out (or for the sadist in every child, Peg) and man hunt. All these games pretty much implied bodily injury, so they satisfied my friends and I.

Thanks Darwin... I didn't know broomball was so big.
The kids games are interesting.... anyone remember ghosts in the graveyard, bloody murder or sardines?

Sorry, going back to regional sports topic. There's a sport in Ireland, I can't even begin to think of the name of it, thats played in the county, where men hurl metal balls down winding country roads. It's sort of bizzare, people stand at the side of the road while this cannonball hurtles down the road and try and jump out of it's way. I think you win if you finish the stretch of road with the least throws? Strangly, theres a clip of it at the start of The Super Furry Animals video for 'Northen Lites'.
