I've been shopping around today looking for a gift for my sister (Impossible to find a Palahniuk book in this fucking island) and, walking through the store, I've been sadly surprised by the things people are reading today.
I don't mean my taste is better than the general preferences, but I've noticed that, nowadays, almost every single book on the shelves has been written (I mean "written", not "published") looking only for the money: TV stars on the covers, politicians, self help books and Oh Hell! Dan Brown!
I remember when I was younger and people didn't read anything in this country. Books were like the home of the underdogs for my family and me, because only a few writers became rich with their jobs. But the whole thing has become a huge business today. I don't know if you have had the same impression.
