My son got some of these for xmas;
It says they live upto 70 days and can grow fairly large;
It also says they might eat eachother!
We're about to start'em up. They hatch in 24 hours. Keep you posted...

I'd have nightmares if I had one of these in my house. What do they eat (apart from other triops)? You should try to put a live mouse in their box and see if they eat it alive.

I got some a couple of years back and was too scared to hatch them, they look a bit like the alien face huggers and I had images of them crawling out of their tank and attacking me in my sleep, hatching things in my mouth and the like...
But I can't stand sea monkey either <ducks for cover>

Does the box say not to feed them after midnight?

Heh funny it has another little package in the package that says;
"Mixed Food - Not for Human Consumption"
It says feed them twice daily...they will live 20-70 days unless of course they are eaten alive by their cannibal siblings...
They are ugly though hey. Not at all like their sea monkey relatives;

You didn't read correctly. It actually says "feed them mice daily".

ahem! i've already posted a link about these, a good few months ago!
yes, i am keen. but have my eye on the 'ant farm' nasa thing at the moment. just need to wait for ant season so i can capture some!
about sea monkeys, bit sad, just the one sea monkey left, been on its own for about 3-4 months now, all the others died, but this one is still going, all alone.

Yeah I remember the thread Bumble. Yeah, I would want to see em in person before I chose to parent Triops. They kind of creep me out.
Ant farms are cool though! Sea monkeys are cool at first but are impossible to keep alive for a long period of time. |

i'd like to see you try and kill off my final remaining sea-monkey! at times it's gone without any food for a few weeks and it's still alive! i think it has evolved. it's eating the bodies of the other sea-monkeys! it won't die and i don't have the heart to pour it out so i can start again! it's a bit sad just having the one sea-monkey swimming around though.

you've left one solitary little seamonkey swimming round the corpses of all its little ugly friends?
Put it out of it's misery.
Then again the little necrophillliac might be having a great time.
Sorry to hear you've had a crisis, was it one of those ferrari buying ones that the older men have? Go watch pete's dragon, it's on now, it's fucking ace.

Well its going to be a bit later than expected. I didn't realize you had to put this tea bag looking water conditioner thing in the tank for hours before you put the eggs. My son tried to put one egg only as he was freaked out when he heard they eat eachother.
I don't know about sea monkeys bumble, but on this package it says they'll eat anything organic. Maybe you could feed that last sea monkey.

Skatealex if you try em and like em I might get em.
Bumble, that poor lone sea monkey, if it were warmer, I would say release him in the ocean so he can meet more friends. But with this cold, I just would think that would be cruel.
Carolynanna, that is so sweet about your son only putting one of the Triops in at a time. I guess the cool thing is if you only put one egg in at a time it will last way longer, too. Let us know how it goes. |

Well daisy I think 3 or 4 slipped in. Those eggs are tiny. And I don't see anything yet! I'm having a hard time keeping the water temp between 23-29 (that's 74 to 84 for you yanks:) when its 30 below outside. I'll give it a little bit longer.

Sorry to crash your little thread all, but i got some of these 'face-huggers' too as a pressie, and like Tre, bit wary and nervous bout hatching them. Don't know what could happen to this now stable world I live in. Took me ages and plenty of hypnotherapy to get over the shock of finding my little dead nemo on the floor after she'd jumped her tank. What the heck could these little critters get up to?
I'm picking them up today from up north where they've been since the 25th, and bringing them back home.
So do I or don't I bring them to life? I hate playing God. |
