Howdy everyone, I'm new to this forum, but it looks pretty cool. In Norfolk, I was on the floor to the left of the stage, kinda close to the speakers, but could hear everything pretty well. I'm surprised nobody here saw the pixies in norfolk, or maybe someone did, but at any rate, I'm gonna show the setlist and a review, if you guys are interested... Well, here's the setlist:
1. In Heaven 2. Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf) 3. Ed Is Dead 4. Mr. Grieves 5. Nimrod's Son 6. Holiday Song 7. Where Is My Mind? 8. Bone Machine 9. I Bleed 10. Crackity Jones 11. This Money's Gone To Heaven 12. Broken Face 13. Caribou 14. I Got Something Against You 15. Isla 16. Velouria 17. Cactus 18. #13 Baby 19. Subbacultcha 20. UMass 21. Gouge Away 22. Dead 23. Debaser 24. Wave of Mutilation 25. Tame 26. Hey! 27. Gigantic Encores 28. Here Comes Your Man 29. Vamos
Well, from the first note that Kim sang during In Heaven, I knew this was gonna kick my ass. I also loved the UK Surf version of Wave, it put me in this fantastic mood, i got chills! I could feel it building up to something awesome. I didn't really pinch myself until they SHOT into Mr. Grieves with double-time force. The next two songs surprised me, because I really wanted to hear the Holiday Song. Everyone looked in high spirits. Kim was dressed like a school teacher with a beer in her hand. I'd also like to point out that she gained some weight and Joey and David are now bald! They're all kinda resembling Frank now. Just kidding! Where is my mind? was pretty good, I've just heard it too much. The next long line of songs wwas awesome. They didn't let up until Velouria, which gave me time to breathe. I caught a lot of crowd surfing during Crackity Jones, Broken Face, and Something Against You. It was awesome, because it was succesful. Frank was smiling the whole night it seemed like. I couldn't see Kim half the night because of Frank's massive size, but her bass was thundering. I was glad to hear #13 baby straight into Subbacultcha, then U-Mass, they were rocking out then! Debaser of course rocked my ass off. They ended with Gigantic. They extended it a little bit, I don't think they were ready to stop playing. It sounded awesome. Then BOOM! they were done, and of course the crowd went wild. They came back and started playing Here Comes Your Man. Before the first verse, they Stopped! I was wondering what happened, but Frank's acoustic guitar cable had a short in it, he ended up saying, Fuck it, we'll fix it tomorrow! and they kicked back in. Of course Vamos was awesome, Frank and Kim sat down in front of david while joey did his drumstick thing, that was pretty cool. I also remember before some song, Kim lit up a cigarette and Frank asked her (through the microphone) Do you inhale? and she shook her head no, I screamed "That's the way to do it!" I was on a pixies high the rest of the night. I saw some of my friends there from Staunton, they were sitting in the seats. I was jumping and dancing and stuff through the whole concert. The crowd was really into it, and I think they fed off of OUR energy and vice versa, it was my first pixies concert. I'm 18 and have been listening to the pixies for about a year now, but this sealed it, I love this band!
Oh, and the Datsuns were pretty cool too, I saw all of their set except for the last song, cuz i needed a cig, thye're basically guitar rock, I liked the sound and they had a lot of energy, but the crowd wasn't too into it, I guess they were just excited about the pixies but I had an awesome time and look forward to hearing them again before I die! Rock On!!!
