I've been struggling with words tonight, but lovely apl's lovely photograph of the staircase reminded me of these:
I love ammonites, if any of the brits have been to Lyme Regis they'll know that walking along the beach you can find lots of them. I have a lovely one that I picked up when I was out with my mother. I've got some from the lake district and the ex bought me a stunning glass and sheet copper ammonite brooch too that I love.
Does anyone else have any little treasures that they are fond of
[edit] misspelling and missing sentance, see told you I struggled with words

I have an old fish fossil. "Rhacolepsis? Santana Formation (says so on the little card, hee), lower Crustaceous Period, Araripe Basin Brazil"
It looks like this:

That first picture looks like a Jaffa cake, but that's based on my unfortunately limited experience with said delicacy.
I don't have purdy pictures to post, just a random thought relating to fossils:
The great American empire's dependence on fossil fuels will bring about its downfall.

Weren't the Ammonites one of the tribes that lived near ancient Israel? I wonder how the name got to be applied to prehistoric animals.
