I haven't heard 'You Can't Crucify Yourself.'
Right now I like 'Dead' a lot and I'm lovin' the acoustic 'Duke of Earl' I recently got from SendMeSomeFrank. |

Most of Pistolero goes rocketing around regularly - tends to be I switched you.
And this year it is my ambition to get my mitts on a copy of Oddballs (I've got much less to achieve this year so I've had to scale down the new years resolutions)

That's an interesting tidbit, didn't know that, thanks FB (and as always thanks for stopping in). I also like that track, gonna give it a listen-again now - though I admit I never really noticed the keys in that song.

BLACK LETTER DAY
Every day I work Every day's the same The sun is going down when I get home
And every day gets worse Every day I curse the one who Left me here alone
Every night I take Something for my sleep Every night I dream the world away
And when the morning breaks I wake and see it's just another Long black letter day
[lovin' it 'cause, Hotdamn, The Man nailed it once again!]

Ah, Ah, Ah, Ahhhhhh,
Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah,
Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ahhhhh......
Ah, Ah, Ah, Ahhhhhhh.......
I'm going away I'm going far away I'm going further than the land that meets the sky
And I won't rest Until I'm very far I'll walk for many days and walk through many nights I leave today
I smell the death I smell it very near I'm going away before that death is coming here
I hear a sound I hear my enemies I hear them getting louder, louder everyday My enemies
I'll run and run And I won't have a home I don't know when I'll stop my running I don't know
Won’t have a friend Won’t talk to anyone Oh will I ever stop my running? I don't know
Oh I don't know Oh will I ever know? Will I ever stop my running? I don't know Oh I don't know
YEP, 1826
Ok Jon, one more beer here, 3 more Frank songs, and then I'm headed down to the Idle Hour...

Dog Gone aka "News is gonna break 2002" The banjo is fun to hear. The synth orchestra and piano are a bit corny, but fun, too. |

Great guitar and great vocals (e.g., "I could talk, talk, talk, talk, myself to death, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, but I believe I would only lose my breath"...)
And, what in the hell does "C P L 5 9 3 H" mean and why is it in the song?
Hey! Did anyone ever answer this question? I'd like to know too and I can't find an answer. Can anyone help me?

sorry oldman, you mean this one: why is it in the song? i'm not sure whether the song is about the car or the girl. Us britishstans aren't as deep as you americans when writing songs about cars.

I've always had better relationships with my cars/trucks than I've had with the women I've fallen in love with...
...so yeah, I'd rather listen to a car song instead of a love song any day
END OF MILES
lovin it cause it's a helluva car song!

I thought FBATC, PISTOLERO, DITS and DW not as good as BLD, SMYT, FB, TOTY and HONEYCOMB so I made a compilation. Feel better now, seems I have a new album as good as TOTY: So. Ah, Grotesque, I say it's better than TOTY.
In fact, here's a double album's worth of songs that make FB and TOTY together sound like the work of a pre-adolescent boy... 01 All My Ghosts 02 Back To Rome 03 Do You Feel Bad About It? 04 Dog Gone 05 I Gotta Move 06 I Need Peace 07 King & Queen Of Siam 08 Six-Sixty-Six 09 Solid Gold 10 Steak 'n' Sabre 11 Suffering 12 The Man Who Was Too Loud 13 Bad Harmony 14 I Switched You 15 Western Star 16 Tiny Heart 17 You're Such A Wire 18 I Love Your Brain 19 Smoke Up 20 Billy Radcliffe 21 So Hard To Make Things Out 22 85 Weeks 23 I Think I'm Starting To Lose It 24 I Want Rock & Roll 25 Skeleton Man 26 So. I wonder if Frank looks at that list of terrific songs and just says, "My brain made me up some dang good songs, huh?" Or maybe he says, "Rubbish, all of it!" Possibly he says, "I AM AN X45t ROBOTIC SIMULATOR".
I don't know what he's thinking. Could be alot of different things I didn't mention. Weird.
Let's drink until we can't feel feelings anymore. |

To Old Man I see... you already like FBATC and Pistolero as they are! You're lucky. I could never really appreciate the Western Star / Solid Gold big rock style. To me that kind of song is more for Mould and Mascis. After TOTY, I think the 2/2 country punk style (Jumping Beans, Modern Age, Llano del rio, Are you headed, San Antonio Tx and many more...) is what fitted the most perfectly to Frank. It just didn't make me think to anybody else. |

Handyman The Man Who Was Too Loud The Jacques Tati Sister Isabel
Frank Black & Teenage Fanclub – The John Peel Sessions
WHY AM I LOVING THESE?
Cause these songs kick serious ass!! Plus it’s a new undiscovered gem to add to my FB collection. Thanks OMIACC!!
I must share the album notes from the Man.
“In the spring of 1994 I was in England, and once again John Peel was kind enough to offer me a session. I was alone with the acoustic guitar, and so I called my old friend Chas Banks, who manages Teenage Fanclub, to see if they would record the session with me. The Fanclubs and I had previously only socialized backstage at some lovely gin mill or sitting around in an exhaust-filled tour bus, so to actually “cram jam” (rehearse very quickly) for a Peel session seemed a step up. We did Otis Blackwell’s Handyman a la 1977, and it continues to be one of my favorite recordings. The other cover was a Del Shannon song I had recently fallen in love with, Sister Isabel. On this song, Norman and Raymond instantly added their own intro, which to me sounds big in the Back in Black sense of the word. I had a couple of new songs, The Jacques Tati (I wonder if those Glaswegian background vocals could ever be matched – truly precious) and The Man Who Was Too Loud, my tribute to Jonathan Richman. I must that producer Ted De Bono who has a gentle voice and a professional style conductive to the under-the-gun-but-still-fun environment of a Peel session.”
