This is a thread dedicated to that great staple of the British diet, Indian food. Its quite possible that Britain has the best curry outside of the Indian subcontinent. Although I don't take my curry crazy hot, I can appreciate Indian food in all its shapes and forms, from crispy, delicious poppadoms with mango chutney and raita, to your tasty biryani with a sag aloo side. Nans of every sort, pilau rice, bhuna, balti and Bangldeshi nagar, from Korma to Phal, from Passanda to Jalfrezi, Indian food rules.
Wax lyrical, my friends.

I had a curry on friday when visiting my father, it fucking rocked, Shefield curry is absolute shite, prawns in gravy... chicken in custard with a fucking pitta bread, ridiculous.
Going to a curry buffet on the 17th, should be interesting...
and the poppadom - raita combination is an absolute winner

that was one thing i was looking forward to in my England trip next month. i've heard about the Indian food in England. i'm a fan. big fan.
might still actually come, but chances are slim (unlike my curry-laden belly)

There's a street in London, Brick Lane, right in the Bangladeshi quarter, which is literally lined with Indian restaurants. Its almost like heaven.

a good friend of mine is Indian. her parents are living there again. i'm always trying to talk her into taking a trip there (and taking me with her).
went to her wedding. traditional Indian wedding. the coolest wedding i've ever been to. and, without question, the best food served at a wedding ever.
though this thread is dedicated to curry, it wouldn't hurt to also mention that Indian women are babes

floop, you are correct about 50% of the time - i find that indian people in general are either super attractive or super repulsive - the hot are hotter and the ugs and uglier.
that being said, i LOVE LOVE LOVE indian food - i'm making a trip back to pittsburgh tomorrow for a week and i need at least 2 indian lunch buffets from one of my favorite places on the planet, India Garden in Oakland (a section of Pittsburgh) - voted best Indian food in the country by some poll

i'm only talking about the attractive ones (who cares about the ugs) . look at American women. if you're going to take them as a whole, the percentages probably aren't that good.
i just think that Indian women are very striking (not the repulsive ones)

Just imagine, a culture where even vegetarian food is delicious. Still, make mine a balti chicken, pilau rice, peshwari nan and sag aloo, with poppadums to start of course.

I guess I will have to go there during my trip to London!
I love indian food, and if it´s vegetarian it´s even better, my husband´s grandmother was Indian, from Goa, and she taught me how to cook an excelent curry!

Almost every day for lunch I have this dish called Viet Chicken Curry. It's delicious.

So called because you'll rush home.
Rita, remind me to email you the address of a fantastic vegetarian Indian restaurant near Finsbury Park (home of hook-handed terrorists, no less). Its cheap as chappatis, and tasty as you like.
And Tre, how could I forget the joys of Cobra? Less gassy so you can eat more, its a beautiful thing.

If you're looking for good cheap Indian vegetarian food in London, you can't go far wrong with Diwana in Drummond Street, Euston:
http://www.london-eating.co.uk/3019.htm
It's been a couple of years since I've been there mind.

That's one place I keep meaning to go, but have never got round to. Drummond Street has been recommended to me by Indians, so I guess thats a pretty good start.

Give me vindaloo or give me death (sometimes they are almost the same).
Thai curry is almost as good as Indian curry and sometimes as hot. I love them all. |

Cheeseman1000, your Indian friends are friends indeed. I think the Euston area has some nice little eateries. Wagamama is good.

Curry is easily my favourite food. One of the best things about being a student in Glasgow was the abundance of Curry Houses and even a dedicated pakora restaurant.
There was however, one take-away down the road from the Union which served the genius dish of Special Spicy Pizza, which was basically chicken curry on a pizza base. Absolutely amazing. Not the best thing waking up with a hangover though, with your fingers yellow and smelling of it. |

What I'm trying to say, is often people from London, and those of a Manchester ilk think they have the best curry houses ever, and they are wrong, as it is obvious the best curry houses in the UK are found in Birmingham, the home of balti.

This has been recommended to me by about a million people, its sooo on my list. As is Boom Bar in Crouch End - South African cuisine, which is great.
Simon, you muppet. No one said Wagamama was a curry house. Its a Japanese noodle bar chain, its not overpriced, and it is delicious.

Hi Simon, yes Merkato is great...and very cheap too.
They've just opened up an Eritrean restaurant on Essex Road which i'd quite like to check out.
I live in Shoreditch and my girlfriend (Edwina who posts here too) used to live in Islington.
Where are you sir?

I'm away up North, Arnos Grove/New Southgate area. I like Shoreditch, though, Brick Lane is ace and Old Street is kind of fun too. I work in Islington actually, at the Uni on Holloway Road, so I know around Highbury Corner etc. Its kind of a relief to find someone local, the rest of them are all foreign, i.e. from Manchester.

I keep meaning to go down to the market, but I've not got round to it yet. Sucks that they want to close it down though.
Yep, the Met is the one, I work in the Admissions Office near the tube. My lil bro is at Kings though, he's loving it. What do you do there?
