a Baja burrito can ease all pain.
don't feel bad about a non-responded-to-thread. it builds character.
(i feel bad because i missed out on my dream apartment today)

I tried Poquito Mas a few years ago. As their name implies, the burritos are too damned small. |

the burritos are kind of small, i'll give you that. but they're good. and their fish is excellent. plus, you can get fish burritos there.
also, they give you free tortilla soup when it rains. which is about once a year.

Yeah, I'm building all kinds of character.
floop, I've long thought that you need to buy, not rent. I bet you have thought this, too. These interest rates aren't gonna last and the price of real estate's only gonna be higher next year.

if i was in a position to buy i would. i'd be happy even buying a condo (unlike some people who are anti-condo). living in LA i'm pretty much fucked.
houses in my area start at around $600,000. generally more like $750,000. but if you're lucky you could maybe find a piece of shit for $500,000.
it's going to be a while before i'm able to buy. and by that time houses will be going for 2 million

floop, have you been to La Estrella yet? N. Fair Oaks and Villa in Pasadena. Best salsa rojo on Earth.
Another burrito suggestion: Carnitas Michoacan. They have several locations, though the only one I've been to is in Lincoln Heights, N. Broadway one block south of the 5. |

Carnitas Michoacan sounds very familiar for some reason. haven't been to La Estrella either.
there was a "best of Mexican Food" in LA MAgazine a while back but i never got around to buying it. i was happy to see my favorite place, La Tequiza, at around #12 on the list. it's on Figueroa and 30th.
i have to say, you've got some great places out there in the Valley. that place Pueblo Nuevo, on Empire, is nothing to balk at.
there's a place called Poco's in Canoga Park that probably has the best Mexican seafood i've ever had. a friend of mine who is equally obsessed with mexican introduced me to it.

While LA Mexican restaurants have become the theme, floop and BLT do you have any suggestions for places down by LAX/Westchester? My wife's family lives down there (so we visit a couple of times a year) but even though she lived there for many years she doesn't seem to know any good Mexican restaurants in the area. |

darwin,
i'm not too familiar with Westchester. i know there are a few good places in Manhattan Beach, which is right next door. though i can't remember their names. there's one just directly up from the pier, if you go East from the ocean, i think on Manhattan Blvd. and there's a place called El Tarasco that is supposed to be good (also in Manhattan Beach)
not to break the Mexican Food theme, but if you're ever in the mood for the best burger in the entire world, make a trek up here sometime http://www.fathersoffice.com/
i have no affiliations with them and actually the service kind of sucks. but the burgers are fucking amazing. and they have an excellent beer selection

i notice your La Estrella is on there. that makes two recommendations.
i've got a lot of work ahead of me
(darwin, that place Tacomiendo is in Inglewood. just a hop skip and a jump from Westchester. could be worth a try.. then you could take the wife and kids to the racetrack afterwards)

Thanks floop. I saved the list and will use the next time I'm in LA. I think I've been El Tarasco. I believe it was near Loyola Marymount. |

darwin-- I'm not a west side guy like floop, so I defer to him.
floop-- I've only been to a few on that list. There is a Señor Fish in South Pasadena (probably the same mini-chain). They have delicious, though somewhat girthsome, shrimp burritos. I've also been to La Cabiñita many times-- they have a green mole sauce that is second to none. If you ever find yourself in the La Crescenta/Montrose area, do eat there.

west siiiiiiiieeeede
blt, yeah, i've only been to a few as well. goes to show how much undiscovered Mexican there is in this city. my theory is, if you go almost anywhere on the East side, or downtown, and stop at a taco stand, it'll probably be good. i'll check out La Cabinita if i get a chance.
i swear by La Tequiza though (on Figueroa).. if you're ever down by USC, you must eat there
