Artemis Compiles Video Game Tracks

The sound of popular artists in video games has become common as of late, with top titles often featuring songs unavailable elsewhere. As the industry prepares to honor its own at next month's second annual Video Game Awards, so too will the songs that pepper these hugely popular games be celebrated on a forthcoming compilation CD.

Due Nov. 30 from Artemis, "Video Game Awards Hits Volume 1" collects songs by 14 artists, including a pair that will be exclusive to this release: Petey Pablo's title theme from EA Games' "Need for Speed" and Mystikal's "Smashing the Gas (Get Faster)" from "Need for Speed Underground 2004."

The disc boasts two tracks from EA's "Madden 2004" football game (Blink-182's "Feeling This" and Bone Crusher's "Never Scared") and one from "Madden 2005" (New Found Glory's "This Disaster"). There's also two cuts from EA's "Fight Night 2004" (David Banner's "Crank It Up" and Benzino's "Rock the Party").

Along with a host of tracks featured in EA Games, the collection is rounded out by cuts from Sony's "EyeToy: Groove" (Groove Armada's "Superstylin'," "A Little Less Conversation" by Elvis vs. JXL) and Activision's "Wakeboarding" (the Pixies' "Wave of Mutilation").

The Video Game Awards 2004 will take place Dec. 14 at Santa Monica, Calif.'s Barker Hangar and be broadcast live on the Spike TV cable channel. Rapper Snoop Dogg, who as previously reported remixed the Doors classic "Riders on the Storm" for the in-game soundtrack to "Need for Speed Underground 2," will host the show.

Here is the "Video Game Awards Hits Volume 1" track list:

"Feeling This," Blink-182 ("Madden 2004," EA Games)
"Like This," X-ecutioners ("SSX 3," EA Games)
"This Disaster," New Found Glory ("Madden 2005," EA Games)

Why don't they add "Theme From Narc" from the Planet of Sound EP? That's a cover of an old standup arcade game theme song...

...Love, love, ain't this enough
Pushing around
To find little comfort in words
But words
Well they cannot love
Don't waste them like that
Cus they'll bruise you more
