I'm speaking soley to people in the UK here but anyone else abroad who has experienced this madness please speak up. Has anybody noticed the absurd amount of poncho wearers now walking the streets? I just find it amazing that so many people can be influenced into such a hideous fashion all because some fat girl -her name, i don't know- won a talent show ('pop idols' i think?). Also leg warmers and mullets (please check out my friend's cartoon and, indeed, website: http://www.wasponastring.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/cartoonpages/march/mullets.html ). How have we been forced on such a large scale to revisit everything that was hideous about the 80s. Why not bring back punk rock instead? Bah. Glad I got that of my poncho hating chest.

My wife and I have been on 'Poncho alert' for some time now. We hunt the offending people down and beat them to death with a magical brick sent to us by the Anti Poncho God. Also, we have noticed an increase in pink clothing over the last 6 - 8 months. Pink and Ponchos can only mean one thing 'Pink Ponchos'. Wearers beware, we will come.

i know this danish girl that goes around wearing a white poncho with black dots. apart the fact that she looks like a waterproof cow, the weird thing is that she is studying at an art/fashion school. judging by her taste in clothing i hope that never gets employed in the fashion sector.

My 35-year-old sister loves to dress in pink and frankly it should be outlawed on those over 10 years old. Really!

i was talking about my target age group that goes from 18 to 30 year olds. i agree that a 90 year old lady would look pretty stupid in a pink t shirt, not the case of a young woman IMHO. plus i absolutely hate pink shoes, bags and other accessories. i was refering mostly to pink shirts or maybe summer capri trousers. i absolutely love those.

You have a point. A little pink item here and there is OK, but not punk shoes. Ugh.

BTW, it's very cute when a guy says the words "summer capri trousers."
It's as if you actually pay attention to what women like. We appreciate that about you guys.

I was going ask, "What the hell are summer capri trousers? And, how do they differ from winter capri trousers?", but I didn't want to draw attention to my inattention.

Hippies? Don't talk to me about hippies. I live among the hippies. I do not exaggerate when I say that at any given moment I am the only woman in the room who shaves her legs and uses deodorant. I especially hate their awful jam bands. What's with that "musical" phenomenon?

HIPPIES HATE WATER
by Mucky Pup

I 'm just a man, but Dan's got a future with a fast picking hand,
but my brother, my brother like my mother,
they're livin' back in the dead head fad.
Well don't be sad, they may be ugly but they aint that bad.
their only faulter is that they hate water,
and water is something that you gotta have.

Hipies Hate Water, Hippies Hate Water,
Hippies - Hippies - Hippies - Hate Water.

One day I found myself driving myself around.
Then I saw'em like a herd of sheep calling,
"Gimme a ride to the Dead show man"
Well don't be sad, they may be smelly but they aint that bad.
their only faulter is that they hate water,
and water is something that you gotta have.

Hippies Hate Water, Hippies Hate Water,
Hippies - Hippies - Hippies - Hate Water.

as my old roommate put it, one thing that's great about hippie chicks is they're very forgiving of your personal hygene. and they don't really care about stuff that most girls care about, like, do you have a job / car etc..

there are pluses to hippie girls, if you can look past the arm hair and lack of deodorant

THE THING THAT ONLY EATS HIPPIES

wendel brought it to life in the guest-room bathtub
it was a special project for his 4-h club
but it broke loose out in the middle of the night
and now it's eating flower children left and right!

all the punks are gonna scream yippie
cause it's the thing that only eats hippies

first it cruised on out to malibu
and ate a couple of surfers
who were too tough to chew
then it slithered it's way out to old irvine
and ate a couple of hippies
and they tasted just fine
now it's got a sweet tooth for long hair
so bob and greg and grant you should beware
followin the dead is how it gets its kicks
shame it wasn't born in 1966
listens to the music and begins to sway
dreamin acid dreams of a hippie souffle
hey hey hey what do they taste like?
some kind of treat?
how many hippies can this monster eat?
it ate stills and nash before they could shout
then it chewed on david crosby but it spit him out

all the punks are gonna scream yippie
cause it's the thing that only eats hippies

there it goes gonna send em all to the big folk festival in the sky
so long suckers!

(yippee!)

Oh wow. We're talking about hippies here. I lived with a bunch of hippies a couple years ago. It was entertaining. One of them in particular was always talking about how he's accepting of everything and understands that everyone has their own thing, and then he'd tell me that listening to heavier music was wrong and that I should listen to bluegrass, and tell me that I shouldn't drink Coke, that I shouldn't eat meat... if people didn't fall into a certain mold, they weren't doing things right.

I always had to hear about organic farming and I heard the phrase "right on" all day long. Luckily, by the time I moved in with them, most of them were tired of the Dead and Phish and String Cheese Incident so I didn't have to hear much of that. There was a lot of world music, bluegrass, and thankfully, that one preachy guy had gotten into Talking Heads. I got really into Pavement and Thinking Fellers Union Local #282 while living there. Actually, everyone in the house except the preachy guy went to see Malkmus in Chicago. One of them wasn't really much of a hippy. He listened to a lot of jazz, Sonic Youth, Replacements, and Pavement. I ended up living with him the year after that. I was the only meat eater in that house, though.

Yah, Ramona. That's was a typo, tho I prefer punk to most things including pink. However, your pink Converse sneakers ("trainers" in my American-to-English dictionary) sound righteous as does the hue of your cool web site.

Thomas and Apl, those ditties are hilarious. Thanks for the laughs!

TT, nothing wrong with organic farming but, jeez, your living situation would have driven me crazy. Maybe it's an unfair characterization but IMHO hippies tend to be preachy, preachier than most.

Of course there's nothing wrong with organic farming, but I don't need to hear all about it EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Then again, I talk about the same music and movie shit every single day.

Funny enough, I miss those times at the hippy house. Ain't it strange how that works?

Yeah but the music you are constantly going on about has some merit whereas that hippie crap doesn't. What is it you miss about the hippie house? Being lectured at, the patchouli, the tofu? ;-)

Your talking about Pink, Hippies, tofu, Organic farming... Why do you connect it all?
I don´t really like Hippies, they are a litle bit annoying. But a little pink, tofu and organic farming, as long as it´s joined with some good music, I like!

That's my sister! My sister the plastic surgery junkie, no joke. That's how she dresses and I'll spare you the personality that matches that hideous sartorial statement. Truly, I hate her and cannot understand how it is that we are biologically related.

all stars are classic. they are not simply "shoes" since who still insists wearing those is obviously ironic about them. i have 3 pairs of all stars blue, black and all black myself but they are not much of a fashion statement. pink leather shoes is i think what we were thinking about.

it's impossible to be unhappy in a poncho.

just ask vince from the mighty boosh. or try it yourself. next time you're down, don a proper mexican poncho and see what happens.

please don't hate me if I wear a poncho in hues of of bright colors and pink. I don't make fun of the black dutchboy from hell haircuts and the black and pale everything I look at everyday. The hippies are o.k.as long as they don't expect me to support them. I've been around the tye-dye and gauze look since childhood and I must say it never goes away.
I must say that at 40+ I like to see bell bottoms and hip-waisted pants. ponchos have been around for a long time. I,m glad they,re back. Be carefull how you laugh now for your children may laugh at you in the 'morrow.

Let's see. I really don't have a problem with ponchos or the color pink, although I don't wear pink clothes. Hippies' hearts tend to be in the right place, but they can certainly be annoying, preachy, smelly, and naive. I'm not generally into jam music. I don't like tofu. There's nothing wrong with organic farming, but people who insist you should ONLY eat organic generally fit into the naive, preachy hippie group. Ashlee Simpson is a moron, and Futurama is better than Family Guy.

There. Did I cover everything?
