FBF was given a B- in this review; I don't think that it has been posted before:

The liner notes reveal that the first disc of this double set is a demo made by Frank in 1987, while the second disc contains a collection of the Pixies’ best songs, altered and re-recorded by Two
Pale Boys in 2003. Black Francis knows he’s treading on dangerous ground here — he says as much in the notes — because the first disc really isn’t strong enough to stand on its own, and the second disc is “messing with the gospel.” Nevertheless, Disc 1 is gold for those sprinkled with Pixie dust. It shows a raw, almost-shrill Frank hammering out rough versions of the songs that would soon inspire the likes of Kurt Cobain. The second disc is a good look at where a mellower, pudgier Frank Black is today. This package is a must-have for diehards (who may still hate Disc 2), but more casual fans should stick with Surfer Rosa or Doolittle.
