I am now a scant few 31 hours away from turning 30. I need some placating words of reassurance.

It can be bullshit. I don't mind. I just need to hear it.

I think the winter is going to be a real whirligig

If you were born into any number of non-western cultures, you would already be 30 and turning 31, or possibly even 32, or 94, since they count years you've been around differently.

So, you have no problems, see?

I'm 31, I still freak out and think I'm gonna get caught when I get carded for cigs or booze. In some ways I am stuck at 17. I'm a teenager in a slightly older person's body, and I feel more sane now than I ever have. Getting old is GOOD.

Ebb I laughed so hard.

I seriously freaked out when I turned 30. I mean I totally flipped out with anxiety, existential angst, fear of dying, whatever you'd call it. It sucked and I shouldn't have put myself through it, and you don't need to: the older you are, the more confident and self-aware and calmer and cooler you are. At least IMHO.

Happy birthday! I hope you have a fun day!

I recently freaked out about turning 24, and my mom recently freaked out about turning 50. You will always be upset about aging. Is that comforting? I think it is. You're able to remind yourself that its just a chimaera in your head.

There are some ancient cultures with different numeric bases, so you don't have to worry, it's purely artificial. When you turn 32, you can freely freak out. You'll need 5 digits to express it in binary.

That's great, I never thought of that. There should be coming of age parties based on that. That should be on greeting cards, 'You must be 100000 years old Dad! 0100000b'

Has anyone ever reached 7 digits?

Frequecy of Glow... First off HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Have fun and spend at least part of that day doing something you dig.

I am 30.. i freaked out too. but you know what it is all good. i am more mellow, more stable and more strong than i was in my 20's.

al lot of people i have talked to have spent their b day reflecting on where they have been and where they are going.

bottom line like apl says age is a state of mind. i still get carded and it's funny because when i tell some people that i am 30 they freak out because i really look more like 25.

so it's a state of mind ... enjoy the ride and thank god you are getting off that emotional rollercoaster of the 20's.

Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday. I guess I can't really offer any advice on aging, but if I could, I'd try and be comforting and such.

I turned 24 yesterday and it sucked big ones, I want to reach a grand age so I can be a proper miserable old woman, I'm clinging on to that. The perfect scowl can only appear on an age wizened face. It's a little goal maybe, but the perfect scowl will be mine.

Anyway thirty schmirty, It's no big deal really. My ex is coming up to 33 now and he STILL moans about being old, drives me nuts. You are as old as you let yourself be it's true, I told him that, and I told him that because that was FACT he should worry more about being like a 50 year old man.

Gee I am sweet ()

I wish I was a little bit older
I wish I had broad shoulders
I wish I had a girl who was 30
I'd rock 'n' roll her
cuz that's when women reach their sexual peak, become freaks
and get crunchy like granoler.
