oh geez, let me think:
i bought both silence 4 albums, as well as frontman david fonseca's album from rita's mixes
from apl4eris' mix on the NA side, i bought a blonde redhead album
from crispy water's NA mix, i bought 2 albums by the catholics (jazz band, not FB backers)
from dean's NA one, i bought the polyphonic spree and broken social scene
from obfuscate's original mix, i bought a charles mingus record, and from his NA mix i've been trying to find neu and a takako minekawa albums
plus there are a few bands i still want to explore (papa m, mark lanegan band, baboon, weird war, dios, etc)

Cool - I think these mix cd things have been great whether they get me into new bands or remind me of old ones I'd forgotten.
I bought a whole load of Mingus from your first mix (I think it was yours at least!)

Ooh... If Mike sets up a new one too, I don't know if I'll sign for one or the other. I like Brian's idea of thematical mixes but I guess for a first time I'd rather sign up for a "normal" one. But an all-instrumental mix sounds cool too. But there's probably more to discover in a regular mix. But...
Anyway, if many people enter both swaps I could do it too and save money by sending 2 mixes to the same person. Do what you want and I'll see if I sign in or not. After all I might not have the time to do even 1 CD...

I agree - you outdid yourself on your first mix (need to listen to your second one again to make sure though).
I kinda feel the same way about mine - my first one works so much better than my 2nd. |

Mike, if you do another at the same time as Brian I can't do it, unfortunatly, because, as you know, I have a busy life! That's sad, because I like a lot this game, the first one went very well, and this one if it wasn't because of 3 lazy people, would have been perfect!

I will take part, I'm just asking you, Mike to give us some time to get the whole genre specific one mostly out of the way before starting the 3rd international mix.

I know but like I said, it will take about 20 weeks for the 'genre specific' one to finish, 'cos one person sends their CD out to everyone, then everyone listens to it for a couple of weeks to digest it, then the next person goes and sends their CD. And so on.
So it's either at the same time, or we wait 'til the summer I'm afraid.

the two mixes really shouldn't conflict folks - let's say you are doing both - you can make up your genre mix the week before you mail out, which may either be next week or in 6 or 8 weeks - so as soon as our order is set, decide then, because the only way it would conflict is if you were #1 or #2 in the queue for the genre mix

Yeah that's a good point. Brian, if you could make sure that the people who participate in both are not one of the first few to send out in the 'genre specific' swap (unless they actually want to be), then that should solve the problem.

I want to do both too. Mike, what the hells happened to Bumble?!?! is he dead?!?! Go find out! I want my damn mix! The next round will hopefully be as successful as the first.
Shame there were some no senders this round - i really didnt think that would happen on a forum like this. I think we should discuss some of our mixes though, be good to get some feedback from people. Ill do a little review tomorrow or at the weekend.

He just popped onto Messenger then but he didn't say hi, ignorent sod. To be fair I didn't say hi either but then I am chatting already so I think that's fair enough.
By they way, I want to set a rough guideline for the next swap (if it goes ahead). I want people to try and stick to new music wherever possible. Even if that means unsigned local bands. I like the idea of these swaps being ways of getting people into new bands/acts. I am a big fan of promoting and discovering new music wherever possible. So I would prefer people to stay away from established acts (unless they are relatively unknown or you have a rare song by them).
I would also like us to stay away from Pixies related stuff, so no Breeders, Amps, Martinis, Catholics etc.
If people don't have any new music they like, either on CD or downloaded onto their PC, then fair enough, there will be no exclusions. If you have time though, perhaps get searching the web for new talent. I have found a lot of bands recently (some new, some unbeknown to me previously) from Amazon.com/co.uk. Simply type in a band you like and then look at what people who bought that also bought. Then go search that band/act out and listen to some of their stuff on there or a filesharing website or official website.
Also searching on Google for bands is a good way. I have found loads of site through google, form various searches such as 'new bands', 'underground music' etc.
Just a few suggestions.
