I'd like to introduce you all to Audioscrobbler.

It's a pretty cool idea. Once you've signed up, joined the Frank Black Forum Group and downloaded the plugin, it basically tracks what songs and bands you listen to on your computer and how often and uploads them to the site.

I created the frankblack.net group (my username on it is slink) so we can compare and see what the most listened to bands are and so on (it would be interesting to see if it's the pixies/frank black or not).

BTW, the audioscrobbler database cannot tell if you're playing songs from a cd or mp3, so if the RIAA got hold of the database for whatever reason, you're safe.

Go on, it should be good.

Isn't it a spyware or something?

Wait a minute... Isn't this Spyware?

No. The plugins do only what you'd expect; send your listening data to the Audioscrobbler server. They don't harvest any other information from your computer or secretly install spyware like Gator Claria or Bonzi Buddy. If you're really worried you can grab the latest source code from our Sourceforge project page and compile a plugin yourself :)

it is in a way "spyware" but that's the very idea of the program. it's not a hidden feature of a program which claims to do something else. it's not malicious in any way, as far as i'm know, or am concerned.

Anybody use this apart from misleadtheworld? I've been using it for about 8 months, and as a stat hungry nerd, I like it a lot.

This is my profile

This is PixieSteve's FB forum group

This is the FB&TC Group

It's suffered a few problems over the last couple of months but seems to be working well now. Just has to sort the Group charts out.

Works for me. Was this an early attempt to make the "what are you listening to right now" thread redundant ;)

The site is extremely slow.

Kinda frustrating. If that keeps up I'll probably bail out, too.

Didn't think so, you only played 200 or so tracks. Why did you stop?

Other things it does is calculate your musical 'neighbours' and recommends stuff you might like based on what you listen to.
