so i had heard about this album but had forgotten all that i heard until i listened to it again and read the liner notes. i bought it because i'm a guy and you can see a fair bit of bjork's tits on the cover. plus i've liked all of bjork's albums so far a lot.
so i've only listened to it all the way through once, this is largely due to having blown a woofer in my car which is where i do a lot of my listening.
striking notes about this album:
+ everything except one piano one one song is made from the human voice.
+ mike patton and rhazel guest on some tracks.*
+ slightly less sex oriented than 'vespertine', but bjork is still quite in need of a good lay. i nominate myself.
+ collector's edition comes with a fold out poster (also doubles as the lyric sheet), the poster is, as one might suspect, the cover. i was hoping for a few inches more downward.
anyone else heard it? if not go buy it and report back.

i dig it a lot actually - more than i thought i would. but bjork's records are so mood specific that i find myself not listening all that often

I like it but for some reason I haven't listened much to it. It has some really great songs and some not so good ones. I was quite disppointed with the duo with Robert Wyatt, I had great hopes about it and it's not that great. But all in all I think it's a nice record.

There is one song on the album which is unbearable. I'll have to check which song it is but Bjork gasps and moans too much during the song. There are fortunately a few very good songs on the record too.

I bought "Medulla" along with "Delivery Man" by Elvis Costello. I dig "Delivery Man" so, so, so, so much I haven't really given Medulla a fair chance yet. Initial listens have me wishing for more of what she was doing on past albums. I've loved bjork and everything she's done forever.

I've got every Bjork studio album and Medulla is by far my least favorite. I appreciate the concept and the performances, but the songs aren't very good. In the past, on albums like Post and Homongenic she's been experimental without sacrificing song quality, but lately her songs seem like babbling journal entries with little concise direction to them. They make for interesting background music, but little more. On an album that should've been a departure for her, she instead seems bogged down by her own idiosyncrasies.

actually none of bjorks albums before this have been very experimental. as far as electronics goes, she usually sticks to fairly 'tride and true' stuff.
the most pioneering thing she did was using realistic horn sounds on 'post'. |
